I am seeing Tomas for the first time this year and I am seeing some pluses. I think he can take this one, as ferrer does not seem to be on his usual form, making too many errors.
And as the commentators keep on saying that Tomas has worked on his movement, perhaps he can stand up more to the top guys as well.

I've heard that too, about his new commitment to movement. He's definitely the sharper of the two. Ferrer is generally flat. Dumping too many in the net.

Also some poor shot selection from Ferrer. Lobbed when he could have passed.

Not sure whether this match gives much of an indication of Berdych's level at all. Ferrer has just been awful today. I've never had a very high opinion of Ferrer's ability, but even then he's not been like his usual self since late last year. While he does get easier draws because of his top seeding, he poses no threat whatsoever to the big 4 (or these days to any decent player for that matter). Thankfully his seeding will soon reflect his actual level of play. I'd think we should have Djoko, Nadal, Muzz, Fed and DP as the top 5 seeds eventually, since they are truly the best players.

Good for Berdych that he might win this in routine fashion. And while he doesn't pose much of a threat to Djokovic in the SF, a Djoko-Berdych will still be more entertaining than a Ferrer-Djoko.

Berdych had better pull it back together and win this in 4. No excuse to lose to a Ferrer who's playing no better than this. I admire his grit, but this is ugly play from him.

Berdych really struggling to get the momentum back here. 2-2 in the 4th.

But Ferrer breaks himself. Berdych 3-2 with the break. Great chance for him to finish it.

Not terribly impressed with either (that's an understatement in the case of Ferrer), but Berdych-Djokovic is at least interesting from a shotmaking perspective and will be a touch more competitive than Djokovic-Ferrer.

I totally agree. I would rather watch Djoko-Berdych than Djoko-Ferrer. That being said, I'd be surprised if any of these guys give trouble to Djokovic on this court. Ferrer has been abysmal and looks to be almost in a decline. Berdych too has been sharper in the past.

It just doesn't sound right to me that Berdych/Ferrer make the SF, where as only one of Murray/Fed do. The seedings will hopefully reflect the abilities of the players soon.

Berdych is one game away, but 58 unforced errors is way too much.

Djokovic-Ferrer is a boring bye for Djokovic, Djokovic-Berdych is an enjoyable bye for Djokovic.

The Berdych serve is the most polarizing shot on tour for me. You'd think that with how big it is he should be far more dominant in his service holds, especially since he has bullet groundstrokes to back it up. He tends to struggle with percentage and it does lack a bit of variety, but still.

Why does Berdych look ready to drop. If you can't play 3 hours in 25 degree hear, something is wrong.

the burd flaps like an agitated chicken into the semifinal..

rankings might change with ferrer losing 360pts, not repeating 2013 SF.

I just happened to surf by when Ferrer was more than a little rude pushing aside a linesman so he could put his towel on the back of the chair! Will he or should he be fined or suspended? It wasn't casually done at all; esp. with a scowl on his face! The guy was pushed aside! I think David is in trouble; esp. since he was ticked off with losing at the time! :-(

I didn't see it, but congrats to Berdych. I saw his interview afterwards, he's such a goofy and friendly guy. Good win for him.

Second time he's done it now so it's pretty ignorant at this stage. This was from the US Open. I didn't see the match yesterday but read the push was more forceful yesterday. Should've got docked at least a point. Completely uncalled for.

Ball toss is WAY too high imo. Remember the match at the 2012 US Open against Murray? He couldn't hold serve to save his life because of that ball toss and the wind. Guess it's not something that's easy to change after this time but it definitely contributes to dropping serve because of how high he throws the ball.
