OK, I will congardulate the 3 time finalist, who had to get a cake-walk Draw to accomplish this.

I was impressed with the Pocket Rocket yesterday in her match against Aga.
In saying that I think the expierence of Li will be the deciding factor.
Li in straight sets.I would be delighted if Pocket Rocket won.I am really torn in this final.
Good luck to both ladies you both deserve your place.

Can someone explain to me the nickname "pocket rocket?" Is that official? Sounds vaguely rude, to me.
Why would "Pocket Rocket" be rude?

Rocket is a nice nickname to assume....

Kiu, look it up on urbandictionary.com. Though, "small, feisty woman" is one of the definitions.

You get the "feeling" because she says she almost did in 2013. I'm hoping this invigorates her. I don't know if she "had" to get a cakewalk draw to get through, but she came through the draw she had. I don't think there's a need to try to put an asterisk on a person's win when the draw opens up. Everyone can only beat the players in front of them. Still takes a lot to do it.

Yes, the thought of a Bartoli type go out on a high note crossed my mind but then I thought why on earth would she do that when she can be world number 2 soon (only 11 points behind Screamarenka) and of course leaving the sport she'd lose all her endorsements. I'm sure when she feels she's done she'll retire, but seeing her today she looked better than ever.

Bartoli's case was different. She had a dream draw and nagging injuries that wouldn't go away. She won Wimbledon and realized he dream. Li is physically fine and playing great. It'd make zero sense to retire this year unless things really go downhill.

Some here must really be new to tennis! This sort of thing should happen more often! All you have to do is look at the record books; esp. with a top player winning a major with some nobody in the final! Off the top of my head, Sampras got more than a few easy major finals playing Phillippousis & Pioline! McEnroe took the '83 Wimbledon against Chris Lewis of NZ of all people! Evert got one of her 3 Wimbledons due to Hana playing out of her mind to take Martina out in '81 semi, then forgot how to play the next day! At '77 & '78 USO, Evert won over 2 nobodies at the time called Wendy "The Rabbit" Turnbill and Pam Shriver respectively, but no one's going back to see who she played to take those finals! Injuries weren't involved with either Cib. or Na making this final; talking out top WTA ranked players along the way! There was no walkover! They earned it and it's more than a little offensive with some trying to undermine their accomplishments; esp. since Na has been in the final more than a couple times! :nono

That's a bit harsh. Kiu is not new to tennis. The temptation to denigrate via draw is endemic on both sides of the forums. We just all need to remember, sometimes, that the players you face is all you got.

I went back and softened it by saying "some" here feel that way! Thanks! I get a little worked up at times being a true historian of the game! :)

^Thanks for doing that. Everyone's panties get a bit in a twist at the Slams. High stakes are being played for, and bragging rights are up for grabs. ;)

What bothers me the most is when a top player is upset, then the person forgets how to play later; esp. in the final! Nothing ticked me off more than Federer squashing Nole's winning streak in '11 at the FO, then meekly going out in the final against Rafa; as usual! Same with Berdych beating Fed at Wimbledon in '10; again going out as if he was some kind of novice against Nadal! Going back in time, an actor and part time player by the name of Vincent Van Patten was "in the zone" and beat all comers including John McEnroe at the Seiko Champ. in Japan in the late 70's, eventually losing to Borg in the final! That one I could deal with since McEnroe was no favorite of mines! :lolz:

I cant see Domi repeating this tournament but I may be wrong, surely not on clay. Well done to her on getting to the final :)
Paris next and I am getting addicted.. not good  not good for a Simona fan because her position is so tempting for an all out assault on the WTA rankings..
Only 135 points to defend in total from now until May 2014 in all events :D

As a "short person" myself I was really hoping Dominika would win, but I didn't really believe she would!
