I thought Hagler won the fight - at the very least a draw. Leonard overachieved based on expectations, had the crowd, and worked the audience.
Yeah I think so. It was too close a call for them to take away a champs title. And I liked Leonard but this seemed like a corporate decision rather than a fair one..

Kind of what I thought. Different fight if you turn the commentary off and look at scoring punches. Landing shots on the arms don't count. Still, it was close and I would never call it a robbery given some of the other ridiculous decisions in boxing. Leonard fought a great fight... just not in my eyes, enough to win.

Another one of the greatest fights ever. Chavez v Taylor. I liked both of these fighters. Taylor stopped in the last round, with seconds left (ahead on points) and never the same again. Quite a sad story with Taylor.

This is a good documentary if you like boxing and have an hour to spare.

The Fury/Usyk fight was pretty good. I thought Usyk deserved the decision and was a worthy winner. I'm not sure what the referee was doing at the end of the 9th and Fury was lucky not to have been stopped.

It was a superb fight. I'm so happy. Fury has been getting away with doing the bare minimum to fights. Utterly boring to watch. I have nothing with great craftsmanship so I was always a fan of Mayweather for example. But in Fury's case it was annoying giving the noise he makes about his skills. I'm particularly happy because it makes it clearer that AJ shouldn't be downgraded as much as he has been. That referee was incompetent. That a knock down!

Ricky Hatton passes away aged 46... a bit of a shocker. Always liked Hatton and seemed a down to earth bloke outside of the ring.
Yeah that’s terrible news, I liked him too. He was game. Do we know what happened to him yet?

there are rumours coming out from CTE and depression to suicide. He was actually scheduled to fight again in a few weeks. Might have been broke. Didn't live a disciplined life sadly. Binged food and drink when he wasn't training, then had to do brutal training to get back into fight shape through out his career. Great fighter. I remember going to Eastlands in Manchester to watch him fight Paulie Malignagi. Group of us hired a limo from the hotel blasting out Eye of the Tiger on our way to the stadium. People cheered as we passed by standing and dancing with the sky-light open

Was that the fight where Oasis were in the ring with him?

can't say for sure. I drank a hefty amount of Lagavulin before the fight. I have gaps in my memory. All I remember is Eye to the Tiger, the Limo and Blue Moon playing in the stadium. Bear in mind it was quite spread out, so hard to see all that much! :D

Having a little retro trip. The magnitude of this loss can not be overstated (at the time). All these years later, I can still remember where I was reading the news.

I still remember watching it, a group of us stayed up for it. If I remember correctly it was in Japan. Tyson actually knocked him down, but the referee took his time with the count. All very controversial! Tyson was definitely not himself!

Yeah, I remember Don King tried to reverse that decision based on that count. I think Douglas just said he followed the count and would have got up quicker if the ref had counted quicker which was fair enough I guess. Yes, it was Japan. Rumours also abound that Iron Mike had an STD when he fought. Nevertheless, Buster was fantastic.

Hagler/Hearns Round 1 was arguably the best ever, but this fight between Corrales / Castillo (Round 10) is a close contender.

A potential 10-6 round goes to a KO Loss.

Yeah, Mike might have been feeling the lingering effects of an STD. He may have had it for months, as he was supposed to fight Donovan Ruddock in fall 1989, and Mike cancelled. (Mike would go on to beat Ruddock twice in the first half of 1991.)

Mike fought the wrong fight. He should have fought Francesco Damiani, a much weaker fighter who had the WBO belt, instead. Mike would have been the first 4-belt champion, and at age 23 to boot. We may have also gotten the Tyson-Holyfield fight in 1990, before the Tyson-Ruddock fights.

yes Buster was awesome. Like a young Larry Holmes. Beautiful jab. He was actually a talented fighter but lazy

I would argue round 10 in this fight was even better, if you just watched it. But... if you followed the build up to Hagler - Hearns then that one takes the prize. The animosity, the build up. It was something!
