He loves the sport, I'm sure. And he loves the competition, too, I'm also sure of that. It's a driving factor for top athletes. However, he's used to winning a lot. His love for the competition and the sport may wane when he's winning a lot less. But if he keeps getting to SFs and Fs, that may be enough to keep the belief, and the love of the game.

Fact is that becuase Novak is not in the mix at 38 yo is that players like Aclaraz and Sinner and others have worked out how to beat him
I mean he comes on social media the other day carrying on that he knows he isnt like as much as Federer and Nadal? he is still carrying on with that Crap
Novak has only himself to blame, he has always been 'needy' even today in 2025.
Good for him if he wants to play the Olympics but honestly I cannot see that happening, he already has got a Gold Medal what is the point?
I didnt realize he had so many people at TF on his payroll

While it is tempting to be (irrationally) disappointed that Fonseca hasn't taken a next step up yet, it is important to remember that he is really in his first go-around on tour. What is impressive is that he's not getting blown out in any losses, except maybe to Jack Draper at Roland Garros. But Draper has ranked as high as #4 and in his prime. This is who Fonseca is now, at 18, imagine what he's going to be a year from now, two, three. In other words, once he does it all once, he can apply what he's learned, feel more comfortable, and take that next step forward.

He reminds me a bit of a top baseball hitting prospect in his first few months. He wows people with his ability, and beats many established pitchers, but then gets wake-up calls when he faces really good pitchers. But like that hitter, Fonseca is learning and he seems OK with that. I imagine that once he plays another few dozen matches (plus or minus), he's going to click and jump a level. While it could happen earlier, my prediction is that he has his "elite breakout"--which I define as either winning a Masters or reaching maybe a Slam SF--in the first half of next year.

It could come to nothing, or not enough, but I agree with El Dude, (and others) that Fonseca is probably the real deal. It's not just his tennis. Fonseca also has the "it" factor that makes people want to watch him. FAA just plays pretty tennis. Fonseca is already someone everyone wants to watch. And he's got the right ambition. Killer instinct. He fell on his ass a few times today. He'll get better on grass, I suspect.

Fonseca is the 'real deal' just wait till he puts his game together, his technique is just wonderful, he has been taught correctly from a young age, the amount of power on his fhand is just 'bullet like" also he has a well rounded game.and he has a good head on his shoulders.apart from the "It' factor

I was joking, going out on a limb as a fan doesn’t always pay off but it’s what we do. As a fan of little Holger I should know…; )

However in hindsight it’s easy to say FAA now “just plays pretty”, there was quite a lot of praise and upward mobility predictions for the Canadian at the time.

Hard to gauge, I thought Sinner lacked the killer instinct after a couple of neutral years before he cranked it up last year.
