Wow...Lorenzo flubbed his lines when he served for it, but won in the TB! Forza, Musetti!
Also huge crowd support for Italians in MC. Could be an interesting final, but Carlos is the obvious favorite.

Saw most of the final set. Rooting for Musetti, but I was actually impressed by de Minaur. From 5x3 onwards he was playing extremely well. But he fell in the old clay trap: got over-confident. If he manages to get one more deep run before RG, he will enter my top 4 list come Paris time.

I knew Alex would not go away lightly patience is needed for clay, I felt Alex in the 3rd set, became too impatient and he paid for it, , he played well to get to the SF of a clay Masters 1000, happy for my Italian, though he will have to be 'on his game' if he wants to defeat Carlos in the final

With the weather forecast for the final tomorrow, with rain expected throughout the day, the Mens Final has been moved to 12pm local time

Alcaraz (2) vs Musetti (13) Alcaraz leads theirs H2H 4-1

Alcaraz winning the title will return to No 2 ranked player
If Musetti wins the title he will make his Top Ten debut.

I missed where he got over-confident, but I'm curious as to why you'd call that particularly a clay trap. I would have thought grass.

Anyway, I think all 4 of the semi-finalists have had a good enough MC to feel confident going forward during this part of the season. No one predicted this final four except that Alcaraz would be there.

No rocket science here. The slower the court, the harder you need to hit. You can string a sequence of a few winners on grass hitting at 80%, then you feel confident, you either keep hitting at that same pace or maybe go for even more, and you have room for it.

On clay, those five winners you fired on the last seven points were at 95% or more. You feel you can just keep that up, but you can't. And if you try to go for more... there is nowhere to go!

BTW, has anyone noticed that the fashion has changed from winning the toss and electing to serve, to now winning the toss and electing to receive? Back in the day, people made mention of how Nadal always elected to receive, as it was so unusual. (Back especially when his serve was just a point-starter.) Now, it's the norm.

Alcaraz would also become the first repeat title winner during Sinner's ban. (He had won at Rotterdam, during the first week of Sinner's ban.)

Most seasoned clay courters will elect to receive, especially if they havent played their opponent before, on clay I always elected to receive, I remember when Rafa won the toss and decided to serve first I thought he was going through some sort of 'life crisis" :)

Considering the information-driven world we live in, probably someone compiled stats and found out that probability of a serve break is higher in the first game.

Set apiece. Fantastic Musetti in the first, while Carlos was an UFE machine. Pretty quick for clay tennis.

Musetti comes up lame in the 3rd. Impossible to see what happened. He's carrying on for now, but not sure if he'll last the set.

Hopefully it's just a cramp and not an injury. He did play alot of tennis this week and went to a match TB against the Energizer bunny yesterday.

That's what I was saying here. I guess he'll be dropping out of Barcelona, though. He's should have a good clay season in front of him, if he takes care and isn't injured. Being Barcelona, I guess Carlitos might play.

If my memory serves me well, I think he usually plays in Barcelona regardless of his result in MC.
Yes, but he'd never won a match here before this year, and this is only the 2nd time he's played it, so not much of a pattern. ;)

True. I actually thought he won more matches here before. Anyway, if Rafa could sweep MC and Barcelona for years, there's no reason for Carlos to not give it a try. Maybe he likes it. His game works best on clay and he admitted recently that he likes clay tennis the most.

With the result of the mens final
Alcaraz will move to No 2 in the ranking and Musetti will move to No 11, when the new rankings come out on Monday the 14th of April

Sad to see a big final end like the way it did. The grit and resolve Musetti showed the whole week caught up with him physically, nothing to give in the 3rd set. Alcaraz had a hard earned 1000 title, the pivotal match coming against Fils in the QF.
BTW,
Alcaraz really nothing to defend till Roland Garros, lets see if he can build points before then, something he and Zverev have failed to do since Sinner has been out suspended.

I've noticed it. The only people racing to serve these days are servebots or Djoke. He always wants to serve because he knows he will have chances to break, especially toward the end of the set.
