The Tournament:

The Monte-Carlo Masters is an annual tennis tournament for male professional players held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, a commune that borders on Monaco. The event is part of the ATP Tour Masters 1000 on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour. The tournament is played on clay courts and is held every year in the April–May period.

The Monte Carlo tennis championship was first held in 1897. It became an "Open" event in 1969. From 1970 through 1973 and from 1976 through 1989 it was a major tournament of the Grand Prix Tour. In 1973 the tournament was part of the Rothmans Spring Mediterranean Circuit. From 1974 through 1977 the tournament was part of the World Championship Tennis (WCT) circuit. In 1990 it became an ATP Championship Series Single Week tennis event.

Beginning in 2009, Monte Carlo became the only Masters 1000 tournament not to have a mandatory player commitment. Most of the top players still elect to play the event despite this status.

Rafael Nadal won the title eight consecutive times between 2005 and 2012, making him the only player to win eight consecutive titles at the same tournament. In 2017, contesting his 11th final against Albert Ramos Viñolas, he won the title for an Open Era record 10th time. The following year, Nadal improved this record to 11 wins in a final against Kei Nishikori.

About Monte Carlo:

Monte Carlo is officially an administrative area of the Principality of Monaco, specifically the ward of Monte Carlo/Spélugues, where the Monte Carlo Casino is located. Informally, the name also refers to a larger district, the Monte Carlo Quarter (corresponding to the former municipality of Monte Carlo), which besides Monte Carlo/Spélugues also includes the wards of La Rousse/Saint Roman, Larvotto/Bas Moulins and Saint Michel. The permanent population of the ward of Monte Carlo is about 3,500, while that of the quarter is about 15,000. Monaco has four traditional quarters. From west to east they are: Fontvieille (the newest), Monaco-Ville (the oldest), La Condamine, and Monte Carlo.

Rune's game translates to all surfaces,I am holding my breath we will see him do well this clay season
Ruud on clay is hard to beat, this is the season he adds points
I an watching every Rublev match live this clay season, to see that handsome Marat in his box, Marat in his day could really do damage to a racket lol! though I feel with Marat looking on Rublev might be on his best behavior. I have already watched the Great Man in practice with Rublev via video
Meddy out of the Top Ten, he really needs to focus in the clay season as he has points to defend in Rome, who knows with Meddy these days his lack of focus has cost him big time, losing to players he normally wins against.
The Dangerous One aka Cerundolo will be hard to beat.

If there's ever a chance for Ruud to win a clay Masters (or Roland Garros), it is this year. Would love to see him do it...he's almost entering Kei Nishikori territory. Kei is, according to various metrics, the best player ever not to win a big title.

I feel like he's teetering on the edge of finding a new level, but with no certainty. At this point, I am writing him off as a future elite (sorry @Jelenafan). I think his best-case scenario is somewhere in the Medvedev-Zverev-Tsitsipas zone, as a "lesser elite," maybe with a chance of being slight better than those three. But I don't see Sincaraz into a Big Three. He's not the One.

I take your point regarding Rune I am also losing hope that he finds his top form which he had a fews ago and was certain he would reach great heights.
Sad really he has the game on all surfaces.I think we all said 'this year 2025, would be a telling point' for Rune

So this is the first event w/ the ELC for the ATP and I can already see where this is going. Players want the umpire to get down and check the mark. Duh, ELC there is no more checking the mark. The call stands as it is. People stopping in the middle of the point or getting in the ump's face after the point is fruitless. He/she cannot do anything. You wanted it, now you got it. Deal w/ it.

It was used in Buenos Aires too, when Fonseca won. I watched all his matches and none of the players complained about ELC. In fact I thought system worked pretty good. Agree that players should stop complaining and calling for the mark check, that's history now.

I think this is the first clay M1000 where it's been used. Watched Charleston for the women and Houston for the ATP. In both tourneys, multiple players act like they didn't know the rules. One chick actually stopped during MP because she wanted the mark checked. WHAT?
