Guys,

Even though The Battle for ATP Year-End Number One seems to be a 2-horse race between Rafa and Djokovic, it is far from over!

Both Rafa and Novak have injury concerns, Federer is still playing well and Medvedev is on a hot streak.

What does each player needs to do to clinch the year-end number one ranking?

The article provides the scenarios and situations which would enable Rafa, Novak, Federer and Medvedev can clinch the year-end world no. 1 ranking.

Do let me know your feedback!

goat nadal will get this year for the 5th time, by the way nadal injury is not bad at all most likely plays paris and WTF was not going to play Asia because of the wedding with hes girlfriend. Djokovic is one I'm worried about that arm looks really bad, I think maybe Medvedev will pass Federer into 3rd spot in the rankings it will end [1. nadal] [2. Djokovic] [3. Medvedev] [4. Federer].

I think you are right if Medvedev continues to play this way, he will overtake Roger.

As you mentioned, Rafa will most likely miss Shanghai and play at Paris and ATP Finals...However, I feel Djoker will also play those tournaments. I think Djoker's injury is not that serious

Nadal will get it this year. Medvedev next year.
Nadal will most likely get it this year.

Medvedev seems to be the next big thing, but remember Sascha also looked like that couple of years back and he had a pretty bad year.

If Rafa builds up a decent lead over Djoker in terms of points by the end of the year and does well in AO, he is likely to keep the no.1 ranking till June assuming he does well in Clay..

This is an imaginary thread. There is no battle. Ralph will win it easily.

Well what's the latest word? Neither Nadovic seem ready to play at the moment with Nole needing to defend some points this FALL to hold onto #1! Just checked and he's tied with Lendl at 270 weeks! Even if he loses it to Nadal, he can get it back and maybe keep Rafa under 200 weeks; "some GOAT!" :yesyes: :p   :ptennis:

Well Djokovic has currently a 600 points lead over Rafa with 2600 points to defend this fall.

Rafa has zero points to defend.

Clearly the math isn’t in Novak’s favor.

I'm ok with Djokovic beating Federer's weeks at #1 and Nadal beating Federer's most slam titles. Federer will have to settle for most SFs or something like that... :lol6:

He will definitely get the most ATP wins title from Connors.

It will not be as easy as you think if Novak plays the Asian Swing!
But only if he does well, and defends all of his points. And doesn't blow out his shoulder. Not a done deal, but not an easy ask.

Djoker can earn up to 4000 points in the next four tournaments. If that happens Rafa might not be able to get the YE No 1

If you read the calculations in the article you will see that if Djoker wins Japan, Shanghai, Paris and ATP Finals unbeaten, Nadal can't get to the YE1 unless he is the runner up of Shanghai, Paris and London.

But here is the bigger question: he's got a dodgy shoulder, and he's going to care a lot about being in good shape to contest for the AO. How much is he willing to risk, just to keep his #1? Not even mentioning that there was a wrist issue in Cincy.

I'd be perfectly happy if he tries to make that run. Because I think it would screw his AO. Personally, I don't think he'll be that stupid. And, aside from that, we have yet to see how he is in terms of injuries.

Last I heard Nadal had a big swollen hand from too much me time so it may well be a battle of who's bashed up the most. All 3 have had physical issues lately. Federer if fully healthy will be also be one of the big favourites at Shanghai and the WTF which will impact the potential points gained by the other 2.

Don't forget Medvedev will almost definitely be a big factor the rest of the year and may well spoil the party for everyone but he too has had physical issues. None of the top 4 were in top shape lately so it may be pretty even.
