PCB having trouble with a pure clay court specialist. Other clay court specialist Dom Thiem also made the 3rd round yesterday.

Not until after a large burner 5 setter! You just can't be doing stuff like that in this oppressive heat and humidity! Johnson has no real weapon but guile! These chokers need to move closer to the baseline, jump on short balls, and try to close out points before going 24-28 strokes! :nono:  :banghead: :cuckoo:

faker's returns will destroy Fed's serve so there's not even a chance of Fed getting by on great serving and holding his games.

Right now, faker is Fed's hardest opponent, more than even dull. He hasn't beaten faker since Wimbledon 2012. He isn't doing that on this slow high bouncing slow HC.
I think it's time to chill out in the alps. Sure he can try but I am not holding my breath.

Two sets to bed, now hopefully he gets off in straights.

When your own game is at such a poor level then how can we expect slams? It's not even in the realm of possibility for an upset unless faker goes out early which is unlikely.

I get what you're saying but that does take a huge leap of faith. Djokovic of 2017 just wasn't good so if it wasn't Istomin to take him out it would've been someone else. It's not like Istomin played incredibly well that match, I saw that match and he wasn't anything extraordinary which is what made it all the more shocking.

I think the reason us Fed fans are worried about Nicko is that Roger has been mostly awful since winning Rotterdam. Nick is dangerous if you're not at the top of your game mentally which Roger clearly isn't. If he loses before Djoker, Zverev, Rafa, etc. then what chance would he have had against them? Roger's puncher's chance this tournament is based on him suddenly waking up and playing well for the first time in awhile.
I agree that Djokovic probably wouldn’t have won the tourney, but you never know. I feel that it is quite possible that Fed could lose to Kyrgios, but still have been in a position to beat Djokovic. All he needs is a bit of return rhythm and he could win the tournament.

Dropping serve to Paire from 2 sets up and 4-1 up in the third set. It actually makes me sad just how much Fed has dropped this year since Rotterdam 2018.

Yup 37 is when it's officially over for Fed. Can't get a clean straight sets win against a clowning opponent.

I just surfed back to see the next match and they're only close to finishing out this clunker! OMG, not sure if Roger will make it to the 3rd wound without intervention closing the roof to save his tired, old arse! :yesyes: :p  :ptennis:

I think if Nick decides to show up, which he probably will, it's close to a 50-50 as Fed's game is obviously in the crapper. And the random mental letdowns can be fatal against Nick's serve.

Looking ahead, even at the top of his game it's a tough ask for him to beat Djokovic on a slow HC in a best of 5. If that's the QF it is not looking good. But both still have a lot of work to do, especially Roger.

If Nick "decides to show up" he'll beat the Roger that was on court today. Remember that they've played three times, Roger winning twice, but very close each time: three sets each, with 8 of 9 games being tiebreakers. With Roger's crap serving there's no way he'll be beating Nick in tiebreakers.

On the other hand, they've never faced eachother at a Slam, which gives Roger more time to play himself into form and Kyrgios more time to impload. As of right now I'll still give Roger a tiny edge, maybe 55-45. If it was a best-of-three, though, I'd give Kyrgios 60-40.

Mohammed destroyed any hope for Fed. Kyrgios was intent on losing as quickly as he could when that ump gave him a long pep talk which turned the match around completely. It is not against the rules, but I don’t think that should be allowed.

Did Roger play in the heat? I thought he was playing at night?

They listened to Mastoor and gave the worse draw the night match. He is going against an American too so that helped.

Surprised to see Tiafoe get blown out the first two sets by the pipsqueak. That De Minaur is a good fighter but he has no weapons at all.
