The butterfly effect in tennis is very
strong. I was just thinking that Herbert getting broken serving for the set could have big implications. If Kyrgios beats Fed and then Rafa wins the title that single game could determine the final GOAT. The winner of the race may come down to one random point in a match with none of the players involved. For instance IStomin saved four match points in the 2017 Asia Pacific Wild Card tournament. Maybe if he hadn’t Djokovic would have won the whole tourney and who knows what might have happened then.

I get what you're saying but that does take a huge leap of faith. Djokovic of 2017 just wasn't good so if it wasn't Istomin to take him out it would've been someone else. It's not like Istomin played incredibly well that match, I saw that match and he wasn't anything extraordinary which is what made it all the more shocking.

I think the reason us Fed fans are worried about Nicko is that Roger has been mostly awful since winning Rotterdam. Nick is dangerous if you're not at the top of your game mentally which Roger clearly isn't. If he loses before Djoker, Zverev, Rafa, etc. then what chance would he have had against them? Roger's puncher's chance this tournament is based on him suddenly waking up and playing well for the first time in awhile.

And let's see if he gets past Paire. Anyways, these next two matches will tell us a lot. If he beats Paire and Kyrgios without much trouble he is a legit contender. I suspect he is going to have a lot of problems and might be clowned by one of the clowns.

He would've got some time to settle into the tournament rather than facing a completely unpredicatble servebot like thug in an early round and you can bet that Kyrgios will turn up all guns blazing for that match.

I was completely ok with Fed facing Chung cause it would've given him good baseline practice for the fakevic match. Now instead of Chung he'll have to face thug who can not only take him out but also push him into a longer match and rob him of any baseline rhythm.

Fed's FH has become such a puffball. Can't believe what it has become since 2004-2006. I never imagined it will become such a weak shot.

Compare that to dull's FH. Yes it has declined but nowhere near the same level.

I can't see Fed taking even a set off of faker on this court. I really cannot. My god what a bouncy slow court this is. Sheesh.

I hear you. Ideally he'd have a bunch of cupcakes all the way to the title. But realistically he'd have to be at an A+ level to take out Djokovic (if that's the QF) on anything that isn't very fast. If he gets by these two semi-dangerous clowns and gets to the QF unscathed that would be a sign that he has a reasonable chance. If one of the clowns beats him then it's obvious that he wouldn't have had a chance against an actual great player.

True but I would rather see Fed lose to faker than thug and not have the "what if" question cause what if faker is not dialled in by the QF? That would be a waste wouldn't it?

If I had a choice I'd rather Roger lose to Nicko. He has a bad enough H2H with Djoker as he's gotten older.

US Open went the way of so many others and slowed down the play a ton. I don't think it's a surface change but just the ball they are using is heavier. And the weather conditions make it way more bouncy, a true paradise for evil. I guess God is a Nadal fan this summer for whatever reason.

Exactly; was thinking that was his only hope! It happened earlier with Nole at Wimbledon! Heaven knows things just fell into place and by the time he got to Nadal in the SF, he was doing a little more than just "pushing the ball" as some said he was doing! He won and that's all that matters to me! I didn't think I'd have to make any changes to the blog I created since he'd been so Gawd-awful for well over a year with only glimpses of his 2015 greatness! It's shocking that significant additions were made with a MAJOR and completion of that "Golden Masters!" You can't wipe the grin that's on my face! Anything from here on out is gravy; a USO not out of the question it seems with him being favored! :yesyes: :p  :ptennis:

Fed already got broken back. In good form against a mega clown like Paire the match is over after the first break of serve. Roger is fighting his own head these days.

Here we go; Fed doing nothing spectacular, but Paire donates a service break after starting out 30-L! I might a well surf on by! :nono:

First set to Fed. I will take it anyway it comes. Hopefully Paire and his popped collar will give up now. That's usually what he does. Roger did win 2017 Miami on a shitty slow and high bouncing HC. We can hope for a similar tournament, he needs to man up and protect that damn legacy.

Fed is so underconfident. He doesn't trust his FH, doesn't trust his overhead. He needs a match that will completely turn his season around in this or the next match. That will also shake off the blow that Delpotro landed on him in that IW match. He still hasn't shaken that off.

I'm not expecting Roger to even get there. But you never know with him. I think he's healthy, he's just playing like someone who isn't destroyed by losing. That's how the ridiculous losses creep in like against frickin Kevin Anderson and Del Po at Indian Wells. If C-Dal closes the gap to 2 I would hope Roger starts taking tennis as life and death again. Ship those damn kids to the nicest boarding schools in the world and just focus on keeping what is his.

Fed can't go 5 shots without making a UE. And now he's started making DFs too.

Fed without his serve would be lucky to be top 50.

Not sure who the bigger clown in this match is. Still going for Paire if pushed.

faker's returns will destroy Fed's serve so there's not even a chance of Fed getting by on great serving and holding his games.

Right now, faker is Fed's hardest opponent, more than even dull. He hasn't beaten faker since Wimbledon 2012. He isn't doing that on this slow high bouncing slow HC.
