Um, he just turned 20 a couple of months ago. How "proven" were you expecting?I said from the beginning, Zverev is unproven in Slams. Still unproven for now.

Too much buzz too soon. Of course he will fare better in the future, but from someone who was pictured the next number one, he had only 1 appearance in the second week of a slam???I was going to post this earlier, or on a Zverev fan thread, though I'm not sure we have one yet: Read this from the NYTimes the other day, and tell me if he wasn't surrounded by distraction. I never thought he'd make the final, given everything, though I didn't think you'd see the pressure wear this quick. Still, he's ahead of what they project for him and I think he'll settle in.

Indeed. Do read the NYT article that I linked to just above. Plus, at 6'6", he's still filling out and not at his strongest yet. I really do think that he and his team are trying to keep down the chatter and distraction, and I think he's very focused, but a lot has happened to him in the last few months. He'll find his way, I am completely confident.Too much buzz too soon. It is called "high expectations".
Oh common now. A lot better, after what he did this year lon tour. He is basically ranked 3 in this year race.Um, he just turned 20 a couple of months ago. How "proven" were you expecting?
No one has Mischa under a microscope, though, right? And Mischa is a good player. Also, Paire is unpredictable.True dat...but who'd have thought his brother would still be in the tourney while he's sulking in the locker room?
Yes, but can't expectations exceed a player's personal potential career arc? Are you going to be that ungenerous to him already?Oh common now. A lot better, after what he did this year lon tour. He is basically ranked 3 in this year race.

I was not expecting from him here as much as the majority, but I thought he Will reach his first QF, finally.Yes, but can't expectations exceed a player's personal potential career arc? Are you going to be that ungenerous to him already?
Shapolov whatever has one set. Don't get ahead of yourself. As to Zverev, I'm astonished how judgmental you people are. You think the next Nadal or Federer is about to be plucked off of the shelves? I think a little patience is in order.Well done Shapo...I have really high hopes for this kid. And that single hander is a beauty.
I was watching a bit of the Zverev match. He looked gassed after a lot of points. At that age, he should not even know the meaning of being gassed. I am wondering about his fitness and conditioning.
I said well done for that one set, that's all...He is already exceeded my expectations here by first qualifying and then winning the first round match. I'm not saying this is anything other than a disappointment, I'm only saying that we can also see what he's done this year, how young he is, how he's still filling into a man's body, so we could give him a bit of a break. We all hoped he'd do better. But what, then? Are we writing him off? Are we slagging him for it? Or shall we just say it's been a big year for a promising young player, with a lot of distractions he's not used to...and maybe, as his body will catch up with his mental maturity, he'll also learn to handle the circus that is newly surrounding him. I do take him for a fast-learner.I was not expecting from him here as much as the majority, but I thought he Will reach his first QF, finally.
This is a bad result for him, no matter how you put it.
Fatigue was a factor last year as well with him. His results in the first half of the season are stronger for the second years in a row.Well done Shapo...I have really high hopes for this kid. And that single hander is a beauty.

Shapo is a great prospect, that is all. We are excited in Canada to have him. I am already very proud of him, no matter what the result will be tonight.Shapolov whatever has one set. Just be careful you don't jinx the kid, then.I said well done for that one set, that's all...He is already exceeded my expectations here by first qualifying and then winning the first round match. He will only get better.
As for Zverev, no judging, just an observation.
