i think it deserves a thread of its own, since both are by far the best next generation stars. Nick under-performed to start the year, but make no mistake he is a prodigious talent and is arguably more awesome on his day. After scoring wins against the big 3 when they met the first time, he is the form player at the moment. Alex is probably more consistently playing high level tennis but at the moment its at least 50-50. My money is on Nick, who has more to prove after many have written him off.

I'm liking Nick to take this too. He seems in a good place right now - I watched some of his doubles against the Bryan Bros and he seems calm and happy. He always seems most dangerous when the spotlight is off him a little and he's playing in matches that excite him... often hard to get both of those at the same time.

Nick gets up against the best players, a bit like Stan. Players like that, are actually more vulnerable to the average Joes. He has indicated that he thinks highly of Zverev so i think he will up his game for it, and we all know he can beat anyone when he is on.

Zverev looking a little frustrated out there in the first set. Kyrgios is playing a solid match.

Am I alone in thinking that, ok, this kids play well, but... it is a bit fair away still, isn´t it? I think that before someone from this generation takes over, some completely unheralded guy(s) will occupy top spot (I mean, after the big guys leave).

the brat won. Again played pretty good when he is up against a big player, his talent and game cannot be doubted. Question is, when can he do it day in and day out?

A bit late to the thread, but I think it is clear that Kyrgios is just a better player at this point. But of course he's two years older - that's a lot of developmental time. I think that, in the end, Zverev will have a much better career but mainly due to consistency and mentality than pure talent.

I don't think Kyrgios has more talent than Zverev, he has definitely more powerful serve but he is a very bad loser and that's why he complains so much and trying to find excuses like "he doesn't like to play tennis, he likes Basketball more, he needs someone to help him and blah blah blah". Maybe if one day he would win a MS then his consistency and mentality would improve....maybe until his next loss o_O

I only meant that I think Kyrgios is better now - his talents are more actualized than Zverev's; it seems that Kyrgios is just a good head-shrink away from his peak, that he could turn it on at any moment and be a top 5 player. Zverev needs more time to fill out into his full potential and is probably still a couple years away from his peak level.

Now whether peak Zverev will be better than peak Kyrgios, who knows. I suspect so, but as I said the gap in talent will be much less (if at all) than the gap in consistency and mentality. It might be a Federer/Safin type thing (I am not saying Zverev will be as good as Roger, just that the relationship between the two pairs might be similar).

I'm happy to see Nick take his game more seriously. He is definitely a talented dude so if he can keep his head on straight consistently he has a high ceiling. I also like Zverev and want to see him take the next step sooner rather than later but I think he is a ways off. It's early in the season but so far it seems like he isn't much better than he was this time last year. He's not even 20 so of course there is a lot of time but we've seen other guys with unlimited potential at a young age who end up not doing much (Dimitrov is the shining example here). That's why I'm cautiously optimistic about Zverev, great talent but he has to sort out the mental game a bit and become more consistent. These guys both have what it takes to win slams in the near future but as of now they aren't too relevant yet.

I'm not worried about Zverev. At that age even an inch of growth will throw him off his rhythm a little bit. He's told me enough to show that he's got a big future. So does Kyrgios. His win against Novak was special

all your judgement is based on your personal preference, ok i get it you don't like him. But i don't get how its an excuse if he says he needs someone to help him? everybody does at some point. He likes basketball more so what? i actually believe him, as he does behave more like the basketball players than anything....all the trash talk and stuff, compared that to the usually gentle, mild and reserved comments which tennis players normally give.
