I took a vacation day for this thinking it might come down to wire. Now I can watch it even if I have to go to work later on. :cover

Man, I would be angry if I had a ticket for the night match. :nono

The doubles could be exciting, but yes, the singles match doesn't hold much interest.

So far, this event has been a blow-out of WTA proportions. Terrible, actually...

Among the other 6 folks (apart from Fed and Nole), there was guaranteed to be one winner
and one loser in terms of obtaining coveted seeding positions at AO.

1. The loser is Cilic. Even if he wins his match tomorrow, he will finish the last and so
will be ranked #9 at the end of WTF.

2. The winner, the person who gets the #4 ranking, is yet to be determined. But, it is
almost guaranteed to be either Stan or Kei, assuming Stan makes it to SF. Whoever,
wins their SF (very less chance), will end up as #4. If both win (extremely negligible
chance) or both lose (the realistic scenario), Stan will end up as #4. Good job, Stan
for finally waking up at the last minute and not vacating your seat. But, he has 250
points to defend in Chennai. If Stan wins tomorrow against Cilic/Deliciano, that 200
will provide a good buffer.

Me thinks, Fed's SF will be scheduled for Saturday morning (barring the miracle of a Fed-Nole SF).

Odds for today's matches

Novak Djokovic (1/10) versus Tomas Berdych (8)
Stanislas Wawrinka (2/5) versus Marin Cilic (12/5)

About 90% for Novak and 70% for Stan.

Little doubles situation: Not much complication. Bryan Brothers have a must win match here.
If they win, they move to SF and if they lose they go home. To boot the interest, they are
playing the second best team in their group as per rankings.

For all the tremendous success that BB had had over the years, surprisingly they have won
WTF ONLY three times. I know winning WTF three times is a huge achievement. But, it is lot
less compared to other parts of BB's resume.

I've really enjoyed watching Federer n djokovic this week.

also..is there a 1% chance of skeletor beating djokovic ?..if it happens maybe djoko is 2nd in group (?), plays Federer in sf for a YEAR END NO 1 SHOWDOWN.

:emperor: it could happen.

that is the la la la laaa "interesting drug" we can take from that match. :popcorn

No No, it is not that easy for Novak to end up second in the group.

I have not made the exact calculations, as it is not worth the effort.

But, here is the approximate scenario.

First of all, even if Novak can take one set off of Berdych, Novak will be the winner of
the group and will thus avoid Fed in SF. So, it is not enough if Bird beats Novak, Bird
must do it in straight sets.

Even if bird beats Novak in straight sets, Novak is not automatically second in the
group. Assuming Wawrinka also can beat Cilic in straight sets, we will have three
people, with 2 match wins and 4-2 in sets. It will then come down to % of games won.
Given the domination that Novak has shown so far, he virtually wins on that count as
well.

So, if you really want Novak to end up second, Bird needs to hold Novak to
less than four games in the whole match OR bird should win in straight sets
and Wawrinka has to give up less than three games to Cilic in his match.

This is exactly the kind of odds that you are looking for when you want to bet your house on it JLLB :snigger

6-2 to Nole. He has now qualified surely to the SF.
