[split] Wimbledon Draw

Vika s draw is a bit hard and pova has all the players that are easy for her.Serena has a draw with tricky players along the way like Zheng,Schiavone,Date Krumm and Kerber....Radwanska has a fair draw but I am sure will not go far..she played better as a brunette..

I think this is a pretty balanced draw Serena draws Aga as a potential semi showdown where Masha draws Vika again. There are certainly a couple more landmines up on the top half of the draw this time. Hopefully, Li Na acquits herself of her dismal showing in Paris and at least makes it to week 2. Let us hope Petra Kvitova acquits herself as well and at least makes the quarters against Vika.

Aside from Zheng, I don't see any players whom should give her trouble. I mean seriously, you mentioned Date-Krumm, and Schiavone is no threat on grass. Heck, I don't even consider Zheng a threat despite that battle last year. This is a different Serena from last year.

Plus, Serena is very aware of what Zheng can do, but again Serena is at a very different place with her tennis this year than where she was coming into Wimbledon last year.

Serena has always had tough matches against Zheng. They've played before last year at Wimby and it was a close straight set match. They played in Miami one time I think and it went 3 sets or again it was a close 2 set match. Zheng keeps the ball low because she 's shorter and that bothers Serena. I suspect Serena will be ready if that match happens. Zheng has to get past Garcia first.

Li has a horrible first round. Krajicek is a very good grass player. Could get upset.

Good call there Denisovich and Halep potentially in the second round. Halep just won a grass court title if I am not mistaken.

Halep won a clay court title in Nuremberg last week, but she is in the final of s-Hertogenbosch (a grass tournament) tomorrow.

As usual I think it's interesting to see how the standings are with last years results stripped:

1 Serena Williams 11615
2 Maria Sharapova 9135
3 Victoria Azarenka 8725

4 Sara Errani 5175
5 Agnieszka Radwanska 5065
6 Na Li 5055

7 Petra Kvitova 3935
8 Angelique Kerber 3870
9 Caroline Wozniacki 3560

10 Maria Kirilenko 2936
11 Jelena Jankovic 2825
12 Samantha Stosur 2805
13 Roberta Vinci 2780
14 Marion Bartoli 2675
15 Ana Ivanovic 2640

As you can see there are 4 groups of players fighting about positions. And as usual in a grand slam all points are important from day one.

The most important is the race for #4. To avoid the top 3 before the semi's is a huge deal, and potentially worth a boatload of points over time with the semi finals over quarter finals. Errani and Radwanska especially will desperately want that protection that being world #4 offers.

Wimbledon will probably have a big impact on the race as well. Making the quarter finals here is going to be a big deal for anyone on the fringes in the race to Istanbul.

Hoergren, I agree about Woz's backhand. It is really solid. When I saw her at Indian Wells, I was so impressed with how well she can strike the ball on that wing that I wondered whether she should play Bartoli style. That would address the forehand liability. She covers the court well enough that the reduced reach would not pose a problem.

Playing double handed on both sides isn't really an option if you are a defensive player. It reduces your reach, and reduces your ability to just bunt the ball back. Bartoli might have been relatively successful, but she's not exactly a style I would recommend others to follow.
