The Collapse of Rome: Washington’s $6.5 trillion Black Hole | New Eastern Outlook
Author: F. William Engdahl
Students of history will find eerie but quite predictable parallels between the collapse of the Roman Empire in the 4th Century AD and the collapse of America’s global hegemony today. Not only has the choice of political so-called leaders become the near-exclusive province of big money patriarchs and their corporate interests. The choice of politicians voters are offered is worse than abysmal. As President Barack Obama tries every sneaky trick in the book to ram through a hugely unpopular Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade corporate scam, a report has emerged that there is a staggering $6.5 trillion of US taxpayer dollars that cannot be properly accounted for by standard good accounting methods. That’s trillion, not million, not billion, but trillion. That is almost 40% of the annual USA Gross Domestic Product. Missing in action…

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service, the agency that provides finance and accounting services for the Pentagon’s civilian and military members, has just revealed that it cannot provide adequate documentation for $6.5 trillion worth of “adjustments” to Army general fund transactions and data. According to a report released July 26 by the by the Inspector General of the US Department of Defense, US military budget practices are out of control. The report notes,

“The Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management & Comptroller) (OASA[FM&C]) and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Indianapolis (DFAS Indianapolis) did not adequately support $2.8 trillion in third quarter journal voucher (JV) adjustments and $6.5 trillion in year-end JV adjustments made to AGF data during FY 2015 financial statement compilation. The unsupported JV adjustments occurred because OASA (FM&C) and DFAS Indianapolis did not prioritize correcting the system deficiencies that caused errors resulting in JV adjustments, and did not provide sufficient guidance for supporting system-generated adjustments.” (emphasis added)

“Journal vouchers” provide serial numbers, transaction dates and the amount of the expenditure, not so complicated, or?

This is no minor book-keeping bureaucratic snafu. It exposes the rampant corruption at the heart of the world’s largest military Leviathan, the Pentagon. The Pentagon report goes on to declare, “In addition, DFAS Indianapolis did not document or support why the Defense Departmental Reporting System-Budgetary (DDRS-B), a budgetary reporting system, removed at least 16,513 of 1.3 million records during third quarter FY2015…the data used to prepare the FY2015 AGF third quarter and year-end financial statements were unreliable and lacked an adequate audit trail.” (emphasis added)

Translated into plain English, the US Army–and that’s only one branch of the US Armed Forces–destroyed accounting documents, did not provide an audit trail for accountability of funds allocated by Congress, and made apparently arbitrary, unverifiable accounting year-end adjustments that made it look like the books balanced, adjustments of $6.5 trillion worth. In other words they not only cooked the books, they Dixie-fried them, as in…trillion…trillion…trillion…

Interesting to know there are two mammoth institutions with government ties or government agencies which never have submitted to an independent audit. One is the privately-owned but Government linked and supposedly Congressionally monitored (hardly) Federal Reserve. The second institution never to have been audited is the Pentagon. Never.

The day before September 11, 2001 then US Defense Secretary Rumsfeld announced, “According to some estimates, we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions.” The story vanished the next day in the panic of 911 events.

Finally, under the pressures of exploding Federal Budget deficits, Congress demanded that the Army achieve “audit readiness,” for the first time ever, by Sept. 30, 2017. No one in Washington believes that will happen.

The corruption, falsification, probable fraud and embezzlement is so huge and so endemic that it will destroy any effort at transparency, buried under the cover of bureaucratic ineptitude. It’s symptomatic of the rot of Washington and a nation that only a few decades ago held a tradition of honesty and integrity in public service. If we want to give a name to a faceless bureaucracy responsible for accurate reporting of that unaccountable $6.5 trillion, his current name is Colonel (retired) Robert M. Speer, Assistant Secretary of the Army Financial Management and Comptroller, formerly with PwC, one of the mega accounting firms. Presumably he understands how to do basic accounting.

Whom the gods would destroy…

The title of my latest book is The Lost Hegemon: Whom the gods would destroy. It refers to the fact that the boring old patriarchs, let’s call them BOPs, such as D. Rockefeller or G. Soros or W. Buffett–oligarchs whose so-called power is based on the popular delusion that they have real power, a funny kind of hypnosis or mass delusion we nurture–that their ability to push their globalist one world fascist agenda is failing.

It’s failing everywhere, whether in their use of Islam as with Fethullah Gülen in Turkey’s recently failed US coup attempt, or in their ISIS/Al Qaeda terror war against Syria to gain control of the oil and gas of the region. Or they have failed in their effort to isolate Russia or encircle China in the South China Sea. It recalls the final days of the Roman Empire which collapsed during the Fourth Century AD not from foreign invasion, but from internal moral rot and corruption.

The roots of the decline and ultimate collapse of the Roman Empire, in its day also the world’s sole superpower, lay in the political decision by a ruling aristocracy, more accurately, an oligarchy of wealth, boring old patriarchs of that day, to extend the bounds of empire through wars of conquest and plunder of foreign lands. They did so to feed their private wealth and personal power, not to the greater good of the state.

The economic model of the Empire of Rome was based on the plunder of conquered territories. As the empire expanded, it installed remote military garrisons to maintain control and increasingly relied on foreign mercenaries to man those garrisons.

In the process of military expansionism the peasantry, the heart of the empire, became impoverished. Small farmers were bankrupted and forced to flee to Rome to attempt a living as proletarians, wage laborers. They had no voting rights or other citizen rights. In the eyes of the rich, they were simply the ‘mob’ that could be bought, manipulated, and directed to attack an opponent; they were the ‘demos,’ the masses, the public. Roman ‘democracy’ was all about mass manipulation in the service of empire.

The once independent farmers were forced to leave their farms, often for years, to fight foreign wars of conquest. The south of Italy was devastated as one result. Those with money were able to buy land as the only stable investment, becoming huge latifundistas or landowners. That led to the concentration of land in a few hands, and the land in turn was worked by slaves captured in wars of conquest. Small farmer-held farms were gradually replaced by those huge latifundia, bought for booty, and the gap between the rich and the poor increased. When the two brothers Gracchus tried in the second century AD to ease the growing gap between rich and the rest by introducing agriculture reforms that limited the powers of the wealthy Senators, they were assassinated by the men of wealth. Today D. Rockefeller is one of the biggest farmland owners in America, receiving millions in taxpayer dollars as subsidy to boot.

The government of Imperial Rome didn’t have a proper budget system. They too squandered resources maintaining the empire while itself producing little of value. When the spoils from conquered territories were no longer enough to cover expenses, they turned to higher taxes, shifting the burden of the immense military structure onto the citizenry. Higher taxes forced many more small farmers to let their land go barren. To distract its citizens from the worsening conditions, the Roman ruling oligarch politicians handed out free wheat to the poor and entertained them with circuses, chariot races, throwing Christians to the lions and other entertainments, the notorious “bread and circuses” strategy of keeping unrest at bay.

The next fundamental change that mortally wounded the Roman Empire was the shift from a draft army made up of citizen farmer soldiers to one of paid professional career soldiers as the ever-more distant wars became more unpopular. It was not unlike what took place in America in the years after the Vietnam War when President Nixon abolished the draft in favor of an “all volunteer” Army, after the popular anti-war protest became a threat to the future agendas of the military.

As conditions for Roman soldiers in faraway wars became more onerous, more incentives were needed to staff the legions. Limiting of military service to citizens was dropped and Roman citizenship could be won in exchange for military service, not unlike what is taking place now as immigrant youth are being promised US citizenship if they risk their lives for America’s wars in Afghanistan, Iraq or elsewhere.

The revelation of a $6.5 trillion Army bookkeeping disaster is but a symptom. A Presidential race pitting Democrat Hillary Clinton against Republican Donald Trump is but a symptom. A nation that spends on wars everywhere in the world while ignoring its domestic infrastructure decay whose proper rehabilitation would cost an estimated $3.6 trillion, merely half of what the US Army cannot account for is, sadly, destined to collapse. Unless of course the American people get disgusted with the Sodom and Gomorrah that today is Washington, and begin to act outside the matrix.

Interesting. As history has told us over and over again - all empires have their cycle and then fall into irreversible decay. Romans through to Hapsburgs through to the Ottomans and later, the British Empire. There usually comes a point where a country cannot afford an empire. America's tipping point will be when the petro-dollar falls.

It is interesting, and not without parallels, but Rome was an empire, a dictatorship, at that point, not a democracy. Its fortunes tended to pivot on a few personalities and their choices, not on a better governmental structure. Rome fell in great part because it had ceased to be a democracy, or any version of its claim to speak for the Senate and People of Rome. When you become an empire, and establish crazies as your emperor, you rise and fall on their whim, and that's a good bit of what happened to Rome. Which is why we don't want Trump. The parallel was invited. I'm sorry, but it is there.

One could argue that the parallel is valid, Two incredibly unpopular choices? Clearly democracy isn't working properly

U.S. Invades Syria, And Warns Russia
Eric Zuesse 56 seconds ago | 5 0
On Monday, August 22nd, the United States government — which demands the overthrow of the internationally-recognized-as-legal government of Syria — officially announced that America’s military forces in Syria will continue to occupy Syrian land, no matter what the Syrian government says, and will shoot down any Syrian planes that fly over U.S. forces there and that attack them.

As reported on Monday by Al-Masdar News:

The Pentagon has announced that the USA is ready to down Syrian and Russian planes that they claim threaten American advisers who by international law are illegally operating in northern Syria.

On Friday, Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis claimed that US jets attempted to intercept Syrian planes to protect the American advisers operating illegally with Kurdish forces in Syria after Syrian government jets bombed areas of Hasakah when Kurdish police began an aggression against the National Defense Force.

On Monday, another Pentagon spokesman, Peter Cook, said, “We would continue to advise the Syrian regime to steer clear of those areas.”

“We are going to defend our people on the ground, and do what we need to defend them,” Cook told reporters.

This means that the U.S. government will not allow the Syrian government to expel or otherwise eliminate U.S. forces in Syria. The Syrian government never invited U.S. forces into Syria, but the U.S. now officially dares the Syrian government to assert its sovereignty over the areas where America’s troops are located.

Al-Masdar continued:

When pushed further about Russia, Cook made it clear that the US would make the same aggression against Russian jets who are operating legally with the Syrian government’s approval and coordination.

“If they threaten US forces, we always have the right to defend our forces,” Cook said.

This means that the U.S. not only is at war against the legitimate government of Syria, but that the U.S. government will also be at war against Russia if Russian forces (which the Syrian government did invite into Syria) defends Syrian forces from attacks in Syria by U.S. forces — forces that are illegally there.

These U.S. forces number only 300, of whom 250 were sent to Syria on April 24th to serve as advisors to other illegal military forces in Syria.

The vast majority of the illegal military forces in Syria are jihadists who had been hired by the Saudi government and the Qatari government, and supplied with U.S. weapons, to overthrow the Syrian government. Most of the other illegal forces in Syria are Kurdish forces, supported by the U.S. government to break Syria apart so as to create a separate Kurdish state in the majority-Kurdish far north-eastern tip of Syria.

The primary U.S. goal in Syria is to overthrow the Syrian government, which is led by the Baath Party, Syria’s secular Party. Many Arabs insist upon Sharia, or Islamic law, but Syria’s Arabs are an exception; the Baath Party is and has always been supported by the majority of the Syrian people, including by most of Syria’s Arabs. Most Syrians are strongly opposed to Sharia law. Syria is the most secular nation in the Middle East.

For example, when Western-sponsored polls were taken in Syria, after the start in 2011 of the importation of jihadists into Syria, those polls showed that 55% of Syrians want Bashar al-Assad (the current leader of the Baath Party) to remain as Syria’s President, and "82% agree ‘IS [Islamic State] is US and foreign made group’.” Furthermore, only "22% agree ‘IS is a positive influence’,” and that 22% was the lowest level of support shown by Syrians for any of the presented statements, except for, "21% agree ‘Prefer life now than under Assad’” — meaning that Syrians believe that things were better before the U.S.-sponsored jihadists entered Syria to overthrow Assad.

Clearly, when "82% agree ‘IS [Islamic State] is US and foreign made group’,” very few people in Syria support the 300 U.S. forces there. Not only is the U.S. an invader, but it (and especially the forces that the U.S. supports in Syria — most especially the jihadists, who are the vast majority of these forces) made life far worse (and far shorter) for virtually all Syrians.

Furthermore, that same poll found: “70% agree ‘Oppose division of country’.” Consequently, the Kurdish separatists are likewise opposed by the vast majority of Syrians.

The Syrian government, from now on, is in the uncomfortable position of having invaders on its territory, and of being warned that one of them — the U.S. — will be fully at war against Syria if Syria tries to expel them.

Russia too is now under warning from the United States, that, if Russia, an ally of Syria, takes any action to expel or kill any of the U.S. invaders in Syria, then the U.S. will also be at war against Russia.

The U.S. government is now also daring the Russian government. Perhaps the U.S. strategy here is to force Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, either to back down, and abandon its Syrian ally, or else to launch a nuclear strike against the United States. If Putin backs down, that would greatly diminish his support from the Russian people, which is above 80% in all polls, including Western-sponsored ones. Perhaps this is the strategy of U.S. President Barack Obama, to drive Vladimir Putin out of office — something that might occur if the U.S. drives Bashar al-Assad out of office.

As Seymour Hersh reported, on 7 January 2016, “the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, then [in the summer of 2013] led by General Martin Dempsey, forecast that the fall of the Assad regime would lead to chaos and, potentially, to Syria’s takeover by jihadi extremists, much as was then happening in Libya,” and so Dempsey quit, and Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, director of the DIA between 2012 and 2014, was fired over the matter. "The DIA’s reporting, he [Flynn] said, ‘got enormous pushback’ from the Obama administration. ‘I felt that they did not want to hear the truth.’”

Flynn is now a foreign-affairs advisor to the Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, who is being criticized by the Democratic Presidential candidate, for being soft on Russia and insufficiently devoted to the U.S. goal of overthrowing Assad.

THE USA while hectoring the world about ''democracy" (at the point of a gun)...

was ONCE known as ''THE EMPIRE that dares not speak its name".

by GEORGE BUSH JR time...the generally acknowledged author of a statement by someone in his administration -- -- presumably KARL ROVE --

responded to a reporter wondering if the USA had any right to attack IRAQ based on what were unfounded claims (since proven to be so - unfounded claims of ""mushrooms clouds of mass destruction over our cities about to arrive if we don't attack NOW"..."SEE HERE -- world? in THIS vial is proof of saddam hussein's purchase of NUCLEAR BOMB grade uranium " (since debunked as based on college-thesis work by some student -- little reported in US MSM of course) -

"we know EXACTLY where those WMD'S are ..that's why we have to attack now" (since proven to be non-existent - saddam forces couldn't even manage to find replacement nuts and bolts FOR THEIR aging fliers - let alone send an ICBM over the skies of new york) -

we know the rest...like in libya...

bt never mind that --

AS karl rove was presumed to have been the author stating to the journalist, quite dismissively:

"the trouble with YOU reality-based people is this: you can not really understand us..we the actors of the world stage...you study us ..judiciously if you will...as we create a reality we wish...and as you study that ...we are already moving on to create a new reality...and you will study that also while we are always going to be steps ahead of you in creating ever new realities as we see fit...

"you have to understand we are an EMPIRE -- and we are going to act like an empire...and as you study us again and again -- you with your reality-based needs -- will simply have to be satisfied with studying us..knowing there is nothing you can do about it...for you see...WE are actors on the world stage...and as we act -- you are merely spectators..."

JOHN PERKINS -- former CIA ''ECONOMIC HITMAN"

''WHAT most americans do not really understand or ADMIT is: we are an empire..the most successful the world has ever known...i was part of this project of empire of ours...for decades i worked south america, southeast and far east asia and africa...as what we call in the business as "economic hitmen"
":eek:ur task was to approach governments and ply them with our prescriptions -- we bring really high class diagrams, prospects, financial, economic predictions that unless they follow our prescriptions their countries will surely fail...and we offer them incentives -- what yhou'd call bribery - jewelry, privileges, protection, contracts....up to and including sexual favors....always with future plans to have the power to blackmail them..we ARE in the business of blackmail after all...

IF they are not persuaded -- no matter what we do -- we begin work on fomenting chaos and disturbances of all kinds: protests, destabilizing the economy and then blaming the government for it...if that doensn't work - we resort to our JACKALS -- that's assassinations -- like we did in latin america's leaders ...

if leaders are still too strong -- that's when we bring in the marines and soldiers -- like you now see in IRAQ".

"WHAT AMERICANS NEED TO UNDERSTAND but don't admit is : OUR foreign policy has always been DESIGNED to RENDER NATIONS everywhere to become PERMANENTLY subjugated to OUR will and the will of our Chambers of Commerce --
"and above all -- that we are LIVING our lifestyles ONLY because it is part of a VERY, VERY VICIOUS system of exploitation that dehumanizes and enslaves people -- everywhere".

Modern America: The Empire of Lies
Column: Society
Region: USA in the World

The notion that the United States is an empire of lies would be difficult to dispute by anyone who has followed the events of the last decade. It’s a sad fact that today the absolute majority of Washington’s policies along with the foundation of so-called “American democracy” are built upon blatant lies.

So is it any wonder that so-called American “heroes” of the Rio Olympics: swimmers James Feigen, Ryan Lochte, Gunnar Benz and Jack Conger, provided false testimonies about them being robbed in a taxi on the way to the Olympic Village? It turns out now that nobody came as close as even attempting to rob them. Now these athletes may face charges of making false accusations in Brazil, along with being accused of discrediting the sitting Brazilian President Dilma Vana Rousseff who has been the prime target of Washington’s meddling recently.

In all honesty, there is no need for being surprised, since these “hero-swimmers” have been educated regarding Washington’s lies, encountered in virtually all aspects of an American’s life. The White House has been lying its way through various attempts to overthrow unwanted governments and politicians upon the international stage, spreading disinformation through such CIA “benefactors” like George Soros.

The entire world witnessed former US Secretary of State Colin Powell in all seriousness displaying tubes with unknown substances in them before the UN Security Council, claiming they represented “convincing and incriminating” evidence against Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, enough to launch a military attack against the nation.

We remember how renowned American journalist, Pulitzer Prize Laureate Seymour Hersh, caught the US government officially disseminating lies about how “terrorist number one” Osama bin Laden was actually killed.

He has also published an investigation piece under the title “Whose Sarin“, demonstrating that the US government and President Barack Obama personally, deliberately lied when they claimed that the Syrian government had used sarin poison gas back in 2013. It’s been announced that Hersh was using information he had received from sources within the US intelligence community and the Pentagon. This evidence confirmed that both the White House statements and fraudulent propaganda unwound by the media, pursued the sole goal – to create a pretext for armed intervention in Syria and replace the government in Damascus with Washington’s subordinates, thus taking full control of the country.

Moreover, the American Thinker would note that:

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton committed her second gaffe in as many days on the campaign trail Monday night, claiming that the US “did not lose a single person” in Libya during her time as secretary of state. To Hillary Clinton, the four male officials and warriors do not matter at all. They are at best an inconvenience. If they were alive, they would have to be dealt with, but because they are dead, they can be forgotten.

But honestly, what does one expect from the likes of Hillary Clinton if even the Washington Post wouldn’t hesitate to present a video filled with her lies and “shifting positions?” Her ideas on Bosnia, healthcare, Wall Street, NAFTA are ever-shifting, since she’s convinced that Americans are unable to memorize basic facts or recall even recent American history.

Accusing Hillary Clinton of blatant hypocrisy, alternative media source Counter Punch would use a hash tag #NeverHillary, while giving the recent Democrats’ champion the following evaluation: “She’s sleazy – a cheater and a liar”, noting that she wanted to set the minimum wage at the level of 12 dollars per hour, but since Bernie’s 15 dollars per hour was more popular, she claimed she wanted to introduce precisely the same wage. When pressed, she conceded she’d “like” 15 dollars per hour, but would not lift a finger to make it happen federally. Incredibly, she still conducts herself in this same manner.

The Baltimore Sun did not hesitate to accuse Clinton of the deliberate concealment of facts from Congress and the American people either, noting that the State Department’s inspector general released a report last week concluding that Hillary Clinton is a breathtakingly brazen and consistent liar. What’s infuriating about all of this is that it is not, in fact, news. Over a year ago, Hillary Clinton held a press conference at the United Nations with the intent to put the whole controversy around her released emails to rest, yet, nearly every significant statement she made was a lie, The Baltimore Sun would note, adding that we have known it for a year now, that from the earliest days of this scandal, Clinton was lying.

So what behavior one can expect from most American citizens, including these “hero-swimmers”, when even at the highest levels, officials are lying blatantly, while displaying no fear whatsoever of any potential consequences? What’s even more striking is that those liars are being promoted and encouraged in the US political establishment, and they are being allowed to occupy the highest political positions in the state, as if we are being told: “In lies we trust here, it is our symbol and our flag, because we are the Empire of Lies.“

An “untouched” American city In nuclear winter

Of course, not. No more than she was able to think beyond the moment of her own Satanic triumph when she learned on air that Gaddafi had just been raped to death with a bayonet by her loyal terrorists and proclaimed: "We came. We saw. He DIED.

The way she laughs so demonically. Does she not seem possessed?

Hillary doesn't care what death and destruction and immense human suffering may result from her terrorists' actions. She thinks only of how big is her bayonet.

Hail, Caesar.

How she longs to touch "her" Red Button. What a surge she would feel.

When J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atom bomb, saw the first atom bomb explode, he reports having said to himself in the words of the Bhagavad-Gita:

"Now I am become Death--the Destroyer of Worlds."

And that was just one 15-kiloton bomb. Think of what it would feel like to touch that throbbing Red Button NOW and fire off thousands of 10-megaton bombs.

For that is what would be required to take out all--or nearly all--of Russia's retaliatory strategic nuclear missiles. And all of her cities and industries as well. At a cost of maybe "just" a few American cities, as First Strikers claim.

Wouldn't the price be worth it, as Madeleine Albright would say? What man in the White House has ever done such a ballsy thing? But Hillary sure has the cojones. Why else does she always wears pants?

Russia would be in chaos. But in Hillary's demonic mind, that would be just fine. For as Pepe Escobar incisively says, ours is the Empire of Chaos. And she would be The Queen of Chaos. Over Russia. The US. The world..

But then as prophetic black voices warn us:

"What goes around comes around."

Like those pitch-black radioactive acid clouds from all those nuked Russian cities that would wrap around the globe like a shroud, blotting out the sun, in a 10-year nuclear winter--even if no American cities are hit--till 90% of all species, including our own, become extinct.

Hillary is too demonically drawn to touch "her" Red Button to imagine these things.

Putin foresees a nuclear winter

Whereas Putin talks about the dangers of nuclear war all the time. And in the strongest possible terms.. He knows how badly things can go wrong. As they did for Napoleon and Hitler in Russia. As they did for the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. As they did for the US in Iraq and Vietnam. And as they have for himself in his own life countless times. Even as he tells voters in his campaign autobiography for the 2000 Presidential election, First Person. Which he subtitles: An Astonishingly Frank Self-Portrait by Russia's President. And it is "astonishingly frank" for a campaign autobiography to help Putin achieve his first elected term as President of Russia after being appointed to the Presidency by Yeltsin.

True, by 18 "Volodya" Putin (as his friends and family call him) was already quite the stud, as we see in this rare photo from Vera Gurevich's biography on the right. By 24, in fact, he had won the Judo Championship of Leningrad. And from there he went on to earn an eighth degree red-and-white-belt dan in Judo--making him the highest ranked sensei (Judo Grand Master) and athlete among world leaders today. And to become President of Russia 3 times and counting too. That's quite an impressive record in 2 highly competitive areas of life.

But then look at Vladimir Vladimirovich (the second name always indicating father's first name) with his father, Vladimir Spiridonovich Putin on the left there, back when Volodya was 12. So sickly and frail--with matchstick arms and a sunken chest, after 2 long hospitalizations from bacterial meningitis (according to his "second mother," Vera Gurevich), as diagnosed by spinal taps each time. It really kicked the shit out of little Volodya. And it shows.

GrthjD86j84BqT-BVVYUwTGfpIIW1BajEQPCnD_GZ-Pc6b6xnv7oGF0KRS4dqPa3r9r1kCAjZb0GWUpaN7qnowsibEwhYiGHepAxPmt0CBx1L_UKlEaN_nBafFfFpxg7DfSa1oiPFis8Ol2oGg

That, of course, is something no politician would tell voters right before an election. But with astonishing frankness, he does tell the story in First Person of how this small, frail boy chased a big rat into a corner--only to have the cornered rat suddenly leap at his face and chase him all the way down a long flight of stairs till Volodya finally found an open door that he was able slam shut behind him. Phew!

"And there," he concludes:

"I got a quick and lasting lesson in the meaning of the word cornered."

What a thing to tell voters. On the eve of his first election. To the Presidency of Russia no less. Lucky thing the Russian Federation Election Commission ruled that First Person constituted illegal "electioneering" and banned the book's sale till after the election. Can you believe that Putin really thought that voters would be more inclined to vote for him if they had this "self-portrait" of their President being chased down the stairs by a teeny, tiny rat in mind?

Yes, I can. And he would have been right. For Russians love humor. And they also love humility. And they especially love a good man with a good story which combines humor and humility as Putin does here with this honest, endearing story which says to Russian voters that Putin des NOT to be above them, but is rather ONE OF THEM. And like them he makes mistakes. So many mistakes. In contrast to the sinful vanity of American campaign-for-President autobiographies that admit no mistakes, Putin's "self-portrait" is chuck full of very humanizing mistakes. From his foolish way of proposing. To advising a friend to take a Judo class--only to have his friend break his neck and die. To Putin almost turning over the small car he's driving while reaching out for a fistful of sweet-smelling hay from a hay truck he's passing on a steep mountain curve. To this Christ-like parable of what may happen if you corner someone seemingly weaker than yourself. Be it a creature or a country--like Iraq or Afghanistan. It takes guts to tell that parable.

But then Putin does not aspire to be a superior individual, as does a Hillary or a Hitler. On the contrary, he wants to show that he is NOT above the people, but rather one OF the people. And one WITH the people. The down-to-earth Russian people. And a humble man of faith.

jyzEmO8fg05e4hZeqYNSRdXTfsxHu5suImVftw4yLCwyn1HyQ05tYdq0SEcpgvab8alDf_t4QazzQd29yNYNCHZ1YrdZH8w_mZcYcUTS7hHstUv6cesnEYp-iBxR33-Y-FBQDYOSf6NZffyt2Q

And nowhere is he more that humble man of faith, following in the footsteps of Christ, than in his kneeling down to talk to a tired, frightened boy who does not understand why it is seen as disrespectful to Christ for him to sit down during a 4-hour (standing-only) Orthodox service (no pews in an Orthodox Church), and why his own white-sweatered mother won't speak to him either. Whereas Putin will. And through Putin Christ will too.

All of which tells me that Putin is too caring a man to cast the first stone or fire the first salvo of strategic nuclear missiles that would destroy us all.

Hillary, by contrast, is full of Satanic pride which she touts as her personal exceptionalism over all others, as clearly proclaimed in her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. In her proud mind, she is the most exceptional candidate of the most exceptional nation. And in a way she's right. For what could be more exceptional than a woman with the demonic cojones to wipe out the whole world just to show she has them?

EMPEROR OBAMA ...

around the start of US-ordered ''sanctions against aggressive threatening russia" -- that ''invaded crimea" (400 years a russian province which russians consider "pearl of the black sea" and ''jewel of the crown") -remember CRIMEA is the site of YALTA - the famous winter resort of russians for its warmer waters -- that was the scene of the historic meeting of CHURCHILL, FD ROOSEVELT AND JOSEPH STALIN -- to discuss the ending of the second world war..as GUESTS of russia...each foreign leader offered his own mansion during the meetings.

said of Putin:

"he's like that fat boy slouching in the back of the class...
the one that no one wants to be friends with...
and doesn't do too well in class..
while popping a bubble gum?"

and a year after Sanctions:
"WE are really succeeding in isolating Russia...
its economy is in TATTERS as a result of our sanctions...
and russia doesn't really produce anything".
"WHENEVER there is trouble anywhere in the world --
they don't call Beijing or Moscow -- they call WASHINGTON DC. because we're the leaders of the world".
===================================

MARIA ZAKHAROVA -- spokeswoman of Russian Foreign Ministry:
"Of course...we really agree with President Obama...whenever there's trouble in the world -- they do call washington...only he forgot the next part...
...and then...washington calls Moscow".

VLADIMIR PUTIN - on ''what is it like to meet and deal with President Obama and the americans?"

" ............uhmmm,,,it is a bit like playing chess with a pigeon...:
"first it knocks the pieces down...
'' then it defecates on the board...
''and then it struts around as if it just won the game".

Comments on US Military Website Explode in Ridicule After Top Commander Warns Russia, Syria

"good luck with this guy, but i dont think so!"

"Guess Townsend likes to make wishes to the tooth fairy (Carter)"

"With this administration even if you took all of Iraq back they would lose it next day or give it away. - Don't be a fool."

"Just do what all the other guys have done, pretend for a few months, help ISIS as much as you can, and then I'll get you a board seat at Raytheon and membership at the club"
We have a hunch that military.com is soon going to disable commenting on its articles, the way CNN was forced to do when readers began ridiculing their blatant Pentagon stenographers.

Look for example at CNN's report on this "warning" story, see, no comments allowed you, dumb sheeple, you plebes.

Here are the key parts from the military.com article, comments follow :

Army Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend took command Sunday in Iraq and Syria with a pledge to speed up the campaign against ISIS and take back Mosul and Raqqa "on my watch."

"I don't want to make promises, but I intend to have Mosul and Raqqa done on my watch," Townsend told Stars and Stripes on the sidelines of the change of command ceremony in Baghdad in which he succeeded Army Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland.

Townsend did not say how long his "watch" would extend but MacFarland served as commander of Combined Joint Task Force-Inherent Resolve for nearly a year in the overall effort of U.S. and coalition forces against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS. Iraq President Haider al-Abadi has predicted that Mosul would be taken back by the end of this year.

Townsend also had a warning for the Syrian air forces, which bombed last week near U.S. Special Forces trainers and advisors in northeastern Syria.

"We've informed the Russians where we're at" and they "tell us they've informed the Syrians, and I'd just say that we will defend ourselves if we feel threatened," Townsend told CNN Saturday.

Two Syrian Su-24s bombed last Thursday in the Syria city of Hasakah, where fighting has broken out between Kurdish militias backed by the U.S. and forces supported by the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The rest is the same old bla-bla. You can read it in full here, but more instructive, are the comments from the men, women, and 'not sures' of the US military:

One could argue that the parallel is valid, Two incredibly unpopular choices? Clearly democracy isn't working properly
I think "incredibly unpopular" is the wrong choice of words. They both have loyal and enthusiastic supporters. Loads of people backed Hillary 8 years ago and are still with her. And whatever Trump is about, at least he's not a cardboard cut-out like Mitt Romney, for example. They have 'high unfavorabilities', if you like. That's different. I think our democracy is working just fine. It's the Republican party that's in a shambles, but the Republic itself will survive that.

Who is Stephen Townsend pledging to take back those cities for?

LOL. i know. if it weren't so dire..i mean this IS about directly challenging russia to - what CAN lead to a nuclear war.. -- it would be just so comical now. but well...they're really convinced, what else' is there to say?

see -- according to american ''think tanks" like STRATFOR ('the shadow CIA") that basically is the intellectual ''expert adviser" to US administrations on ''how to proceed" -- and of course it comes basically from Brzezinski's long -ago ''calculations of a WINNABLE nuclear war"....

it's that the USA will remain somehow protected by the oceans since the USA forces are pockmarked all around EURASIA ANYWAY...(just look at the map)..which of course is the whole point with the PENTAGON'S ''full spectrum dominance " project -- nowaday's called "ANACONDA" (like the way the constrictor wrapes tighter and tighter around the prey) ...

and such devastation on russia would cause it to collapse, its remaining population kneel..etc. etc. etc..

but a cursory glance at ''arsenal by arsenal">

the russias have QUANTITATIVELY far inferior forces - conventional forces - as well as nuclear...
both in manpower (if ALL of the EU /nato Forces and other allies were counted and PRESUMABLY willing to throw their manpower into the american war against russia (which has already been going on, MAKE NO MISTAKE about that) ..

but in a NUCLEAR exchange....there is NO american defense of any kind that can prevent russia to destroy the entire United States - likely in under 2 hours.
even the PENTAGON does not dare refute that.

while the DEFENSE strength of russia -- given that it has only RE-started its upgrade in the last 10 years in response to dismay about NATO keeping on closing in despite all appeals by the russians to stop...is SUPERIOR by real distinctiveness. practically IMPENETRABLE ..With the only area of very narrow entry by american'/nato nuclear attacks

right there from UKRAINE -- particularly DONBASS (EAST ukraine which is basically russian ethnicity and the one that refuses to submit to the fascists installed by the USA in KIEV ) ..FROM THERE - should the USA manage to really take it behind KIEV - AMERICAN missilve with nukes CAN REACH in terms of distance the URALS mountains separating western and more heavily populated russia from the larger , more sparsely populated eastern or 'asian' russia.

and it is in the uRALS where much of russia's nuclear power is stateioned.

but that is mainly talking about REACHING them - that does not presuppose actually BREAKING russia's aerial borders...because of the many-many-layers of defense

S-300, S-400, S-500, AND soon S-600 , each level even more advanced than the previous

just to discuss - MERELY the least advanced of them - S-300 defense batteries are giving nightmares to ISRAEL because these alone make it impossible for israel and saudi arabia to penetrate IRAN which now will begin to receive the S-300'S it bought from russia 10 years ago...

so -- imagine what the S-500'S already are..

now -- the point is this -- RUSSIA does NOT need aircraft carriers Like the USA has its 11 carrier fleets to carry missile carrying bombers of the USA with nukes to ''reach ANY SPOT ON THE PLANET " WITHIN AN HOUR. ..since russia's enormous territory is ITSELF ONE gigantic ''aircraft carrier" -- whose missiles CAN reach ANY POINT on earth within half an hour to an hour..depending on from which point in russia they are launched from...

and once certain kinds of these russian ICBMS are launched -- and have escpaed their INITIAL 3 MINUTES of launch at which they are most vulnerable (like all rockets really) for not yet reaching full speed (but still inside russia anyway) --

they go hypersonic -- far, faster than any missiles the USA can deploy to catch them -- somethign like at least 7,000 to 10,000 miles per hour

fly HIGHER than any american missiles - right up to ''near space" - as they cruise - and then suddenly DROP at very high speed while simultaneously ''cavitating" -- changing directions constantly that they are practically impossible to hit...

the USA DOES NOT have anything comparable to that. NONE. whether as attack or defense weapons.
as they fall each fying carrier releases up to 10 nuclear warheads -- each one also hypersonic, and also changing directions and then hit...

and except for the VERY largest , heaviest ones like the more recent ''SARMAT" giant...(which they are now in testing stages for the even newere design that is more ''miniaturized" for SUBMARINE launches) - practically all of their arsenal can be launched from AIR, OR LAND OR WATER SURFACE OR SUB WATER ...

A single other ''submarine torpedo" (which they ''leaked" a photo of its ROUGH DESIGN ONLY from during a staff meeting with putin -- as if ''inadvertently") -- is practically a very, very quiet submarine, - robotic - that is nothign but a gigantic nuclear bomb whose task is not to LAND on the USA..

but simply from anywhere on the ocean - in international waters in that enormous sea -- explode near enough to the USA coasts -- and its OVER for the entire western or eastern coasts...

the POINT HERE IS -- all the foreign wars of the USA have alwasy been against small powers or decrepit ones or ones that will SUBMIT and have NO capability of utter destructive retalation..

RUSSIA is NOT one of them.

BUT just to be sure -- if RUSSIA REALLY wanted to destroy - say , JUST eastern europe? up to around germany? sweden, finland, batlics?

it can WIPE THEM OUT in under 30 minutes. MAX. before ANY NATO forces can even step beyond a few meters inside russian territory if they ever were so lunatic as to TRY russia's patience.

whatever SHE turns out to be -- the MOST BRILLIANT DECISION BY UK'S new PM

THERESA MAY -- (not discounting DECEIT ON HER par, but i am hopeful it is not included) --

is SHE IMMEDIATELY NOW has approached russia to IMPROVE their relations.. and wants to 'talk" - investing, etc. etc. etc...

but MADAME HILLARY is barely able to wait to get HER thumb on the juicy NUCLEAR BUTTON. I tell you.

she REALLY believes BRZEZINSKI who long ago ''calculated"

"we encircle russia' etc, etc, etc" until when all the forces are ready ''go in and carve her up into smaller manageable pieces - a land invasion is very conceivable in order to once and for all have permanent control of ALL eurasia...but JUST IN CASE IT FAILS -- we are BETWEEN OCEANS ANYWAY and those wars won't reach our shores just like WORLD WAR 2 didn't: "

THAT -- DEAR FRIEND BRITBOX -- IS the KIND OF ''wisdom" that RULES washington dc!!

Who is Stephen Townsend pledging to take back those cities for?

IN THE MEANTIME -- and i know townsend is referring to some iraqi cities to ''take back" as IF it were america's to ''take" at all. lol...but also it is part of that remark by the other american guy -- or is it also townsend? -- that threatens to ''defend ourselves" (meaning? shoot down russian and syrian planes" ?) that dare FLY OVER the SYRIAN province of kurds -- because the americans might ''feel threatened?"

but they DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION from the sovereign government of syria -- which IS largely supported by syrians of ALL tribal and religious backgrounds - except for these separatist Kurds...

and therefore that is practically an OFFICIAL declaration by the USA that ''WE ARE OCCUPYING SYRIA and don't YOU DARE threaten us"...

because in TRUTH -

1)_ not only has the USA been EXPOSED by russia and iran and syria as the WEAPONIZER of ISIL , DAESH, AL QAEDA in their ever-changing ''names' - which the USA picks and chooses to call ''moderate rebeles" from AMONG them -- and has LOST ANY excuse to continue to support and PROTECT them -

2) the usa now has to CLING to its only remaining ''local face" which is the KURDS in northeastern syria -- as its EXCUSE for BEING in the country at all...!!

so - like a CORNERED RAT that it really is -- it now DIRECTLY threatens RUSSIANS WHO are INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED BY international laws and syrian sovereign laws AS the only power outside of IRAN and HEZBOLLAH to EVEN SET FOOT inside syria to destroy these terrorists who the USA enabled. with funding from saudi arabia and qatar.

but the ''funnier" thing is this:

as townsend brags about 'taking back mosul" inIRAQ -- and all that other threatening russia and syria --

IRAQ meanwhile is MOVING ON - and making TRADE DEALS WITH RUSSIA to supply iraq's needs for FOOD -- SUCH AS russian beef, poultry grain, etc...

and LIKELY -- in due course -- in IRAQI DINARS AND RUSSIAN RUBLES OR YUAN.

and soon to follow - likely iraqi OIL FOR currencies outside of the USA dollar.

so -- just watch -- the ONLY country that ENDS UP ISOLATED

IS NONE OTHER THAN THE AUTHOR OF ''isolating disobedient countries"

and that is EMPIRE USA. i'ts just as i always predicted..my SURPRISE really is how SWIFTLY it has begun to transpire.

there's ONE thing the americans and the west NEVER seem to learn --

what YOUR MOST FAMOUS GENERAL -- MONTGOMERY once had the wisdom to say:

"THERE ARE THREE RULES OF WAR:
1) never march on Moscow
2) do not provoke war or threaten moscow with war.
3) follow the first two rules. "

updated to recent weeks -- a russian high official said this:

"if the west insist that we kneel to their demands as they encroach right to our doorstep -- exactly in the formation the west did that turned into the second world war...
"they have to realize that this is not russia of those times...
"we do not want war - we fear it - but we are not going to hesitate to destroy anyone that dares to make us bow ".
"they have to know by now - that it is those exact installations and forces they are building that we WILL destroy...
"because -- after our history of being invaded over the centuries - from the mongols to the nazis, from the swedes to the poles, while being painted as the invaders ourselves --

''we will NEVER again permit foreigners to make war upon us IN OUR OWN TERRITORY...
"ONCE we are convinced that our sovereignty and territorial integrity is under attack -- we WILL bring the war to our adversary ...no matter where they are".

''the AMERICANS seem to believe they can hide behind the mask of NATO and these countries so far away from america itself -- well -- they might have learn what Hitler had to learn".

I don't think this will ever get to the stage of a nuclear war... Mutually Assured Destruction still exists. Nobody can "win" a nuclear war.

The US/Nato have a much greater superiority militarily... but how could they utilise it (in respect to Russia)? They can't really. Some of these apocalyptic scenarios just ain't going to happen T.

The only way the US can really hurt Russia is by causing problems in the peripheral countries and economically... and hurt them they will... but they certainly couldn't "take" Russia and nobody would surely be stupid enough to try.

That is normally what I would think as well, but then I am reminded of so many times in the history where "it couldn't happen" then it did so I just pray that somehow it won't come to the worst. Even though the world is in dire straights.

that's why it is so scary -- and i DON'T mean russia's position ...

it is BEYOND DOUBT DEFENSIVE . it is the USA that is driving this lunacy.

RUSSIA is ''guilty" of the TWO great sins against american empire:

1) IT IS - as madeleine albright and brzezinski put it - but also basically every american imperial thinker : russia is SO BIG and needs to be sliced apart FOR AMERICAN control -- in the same way it does country after country
2) russia -- representing a COMPLETELY ''alien'' world-system - the one created by the SLAVIC ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN statehood that is in DIRECT contrast to the ''western christianity" in just every way -- WILL NOT SUBMIT.

many people will not think the SECOND one is not so important? oh no..

it is CENTRAL to the whole endeavor...

the vastness of russia, the riche territory that ''must be slcied apar for management" by FOREIGN powers - of the west -- is DIRECTLY linked

to RUSSIA'S ORTHODOX - ''other world" in which russia's EMPIRE was TRULY about THAT world-view of orthodoxy and ITS embrace of the other 3 major religions as equals within its STATE ..OR 'the russian world"

which under the USSR was simply formalized as a POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC system.

but in reality -- beyond that ''formal union" -- was actually part of the russian world's ''empire'

that same orthodox - eastern europe/asian "world"

which is COMPLETELY ALIEN to the western models.

and THAT russian world - whether under the czarist empire - or the USSR - or TODAY -

IS WHAT STANDS between AMERICAN/western imperialism total domination AND the world itself.

RUSSIA - for standing up that way -- is basically indeed a THREAT to the ''western world" imperialism itself.

BILLIE -- you are serbian like NOLE -- you KNOW this better than I or anyone exactly what I AM talking about.

Pentagon Has No 'Plan B' If Russian-American Talks on Syria in Geneva Fail

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US State Secretary John Kerry may meet for talks in Geneva later this week with the goal of setting up some sort of intelligence sharing agreement in order to coordinate strikes against Daesh; however Pentagon says it has no Plan B in case the talks fail.

UN Syria Envoy Planning to Meet Lavrov, Kerry in Geneva August 26-27
Sergei Lavrov and John Kerry might meet for talks in Geneva on August 26-27. However the meeting has not yet been confirmed by either of the parties.

Meanwhile, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said at his press briefing on Monday that the US Department of Defense has no Plan B in case the negotiations fail and “continues to focus on Plan A.”

Neither is it going to “put a calendar deadline on it", the press secretary added.

Cook however said that the US has “not finalized plans with Russia on potential coordinated efforts.”

“Serious issues must first be resolved before we can implement the steps Secretary Kerry and Minister Lavrov discussed in Moscow last month. We are not there yet and the regime and Russia's recent actions only make it harder to consider any potential coordination.”

The Pentagon also reiterated the US warnings to the Syrian and Russian jets to keep away from American positions in Syria in the wake of Syrian Air Force sortie to the Syrian city of Hasakah. Despite the warning that the US could open fire, Syrian jets risked confrontation by flying a bombing sortie over this area.

“And that is an area in which we've been active. We've been clear about that. And so, we're going to continue to defend our forces in that area. We're going to tell the Syrians and anyone else who may threaten our forces in that area, we will defend them. And they have a right to defend themselves as well.”

“We've said repeatedly that we will protect coalition forces as needed in Syria, and I think we demonstrated that last week. And I'm not going to get into the specific of our air operations, but we will continue to do that. We will use our air power as needed to protect coalition forces in our partnered operations,” he added.

When asked about the difference between the above warning and the introduction of a no-fly zone, the press secretary said that “the distinction here is that we're going to defend our forces where they are.”

US Commander Warns Moscow, Damascus Against Operations Near American Positions
“And we're not going to tell you exactly where they are, but we have been operating in that area in particular. We made that clear to the Syrian regime last week, through our — the Russians, through our memorandum of understanding.”
He repeated that the US is going to provide air cover and air support to “their forces” on the ground wherever they may be.

“We're not going to disclose where they are at any particular time. We did indicate that they were in that particular area — had been operating there previously — and that's why we provided that particular warning for that area. But I'm not going to disclose where our forces are in Syria at any particular time.”

However the press secretary avoided answering the question whether “the Syrian regime has the right to fly over its territory".

======================================

of course there's just that TEENSY WEENSY bit of inconvenient thingie:

THE USA IS AN INVADER AND ILLEGAL OCCUPIER of A SOVEREIGN COUNTRY that NEVER - ever invited the USA or gave it permission to ENTER.

''anywhere and everywhere" in syria. NONE ..only the SYRIAN ARAB ARMY - THE SYRIAN LOCAL tribal forces who HAVE sworn allegiance to the legitimate government of ASSAD --

THE IRANIAN personnel, the personnel of HEZBOLLAH and the RUSSIAN personnel are allowed ...by INVITATION AND REQUEST from the sovereign syrian nation's legitimate governemnt.

ALL OTHERS ARE NOT ALLOWED - USA includced.
