While people do have legitimate injury issues, there is also the "Roger effect" going on, where people think if they take six months off, they will come back and win a couple of slams OK. On a serious note, with several 30 and above players on tour, many of them are burnt out with the grind and a break might actually freshen their spirits, even if they don't win Slams when they come back.

We have had announcements from Novak and Stan, saying that they are closing the shop for the rest of the season. Meanwhile, Cilic and Andy have chosen to skip Montreal, but not clear as to whether they will be ready to participate in Cincy or for that matter, even USO.

Here is your guide to injured players in tennis . May be ATP should do something about this?

So, here is your new poll.
Who would be the next player to end the season?

I just saw the news about Stan calling it a season because of knee surgery. Djokovic is out with a bone bruise. And everyone's wondering about Murray's hip injury. Then there's Nadal - who seems to be snake bit with injuries. It just makes you marvel all the more that Federer made it to 35 without a major injury or surgery. Don't these guys have to start questioning what Roger knows or does that they don't? Obviously they're never going to be able to move like he does - or play like he does - but maybe they need to start eating ice cream and chocolate every day...cuz apparently it has some healing and recovery powers they don't know about...:lulz1:

Also, had to laugh at the poll. I voted for Murray obviously, but the DelPo option made me laugh. I feel bad for him...but he is starting to look like a hypochondriac.

I'll go with Kyrgios. Don't think his hip has healed properly at all as he wasn't moving well at all last 3 matches and the shoulder problem won't help.

Regarding that list of 2017 injuries - the season is too long. Everybody knows it but there's too much money at stake to shorten it.

I forgot to mention Nishioka (not to be confused with Nishikori) who was sidelined with surgery for torn ACL since early April. He was supposed to reappear during NA hard court season, but has pulled out of USO too. I have seen couple of matches by him. The guy is very feisty and will have a good future, if he can avoid Nishikori's path of being eternally injured. He is just 21.

I've seen this talked about in relation to Djokovic as if Federer's example is some kind of permission to shut down the year. I think that's simplistic. I would mention as a co-example of the opposite choice in Juan Martin del Potro. Taken individually, basically everyone has seen that no one needs a serious break like Djokovic. Sitting out a couple of tournaments isn't going to put it back together for him, however much is physical, and whatever part is mental. He didn't need the example of Federer to lead him to that. As to Wawrinka, it seems he's going to have surgery on his knee. So when, realistically, would he come back at this point in the calendar? Here's where the example of JMDP comes in: after nearly a year off with his first wrist surgery in 2010, he tried coming back for the last few tournaments of the year. It didn't work out, and he had to shut it down again. What was the point, really? This may be something that Wawrinka is looking at. No reason to press for a few points and tournaments, when you can do the better rehab and come back really strong.

Actually, I voted for Kyrgios but can I have my vote back? I'll actually vote for Tommy Haas :(

I did think of Haas, but it made me too sad to say. And not to the point. I hope Kyrgios' problems are not so bad as to shut down his year.

What's the latest on Brian Baker? Is he still injury free at present? Guy has had a hell of a hard time too.

Raonic gave walkover 3 or 4 times this year. But, he seems ok now (even though not playing great).

Nobody won this quiz. We all forgot Glassikori (I forgot to include him in the poll explicitly too). How could we?

Raonic out of USO. Claims to be back for later part of year. But, I doubt it though.
