Kiu. Don't be silly. You can pick whoever is on the list. The only thing you can't do on this new board is add your own pick.

Serena is the favorite. Petra should be the second favorite if she can keep her head.

Is anyway putting any stock in the fact that Maria said she WANTS to meet Serena at Wimbledon this year? Can she pose a reasonable threat to Serena at the only major where she has beaten her in the past?

I still think Serena is the complete favorite if they do meet, but will the fact that Maria has beaten her here give her the extra confidence she would need to cause the upset?

^ Not likely. I mean what else can she say? She will either meet Serena in the SF or the F depending on what side she falls on. I think she needs to try and restore her confidence because at this point it's mostly mental. Belief is the first part, then the execution.

Well, since Maria win over Serena in that Wimbledon final, Serena has defeated Maria twice at Wimbledon, in the fourth round in 2010, which was a very competitive match, and then Masha was "Errani'd" in that infamous Olympic final.

So, not sure if 2004 gives Sharapova extra confidence at this stage in the game, especially considering has transpired in their "rivalry" since 2004.

Serena's serve is back to basics on grass. She used lots of spin very effectively at RG this year but the extra oomph on grass will win her even more aces and make her very hard to beat. Of course it all hangs on her serving well. She's the resounding favourite.

This is a very good point. Grass rewards a big serve, and Serena has the biggest one in the women's game. Serena has to be the favorite.

I actually think grass is Pova's worst surface because balls skid and lowers the strike zone. I am not saying she will be ousted in the early rounds, just that she is less likely to go deep at Wimby compared to other majors.

If she stays healthy, it would appear that Serena is going to win everything she enters until she retires. She's the WTA's one-person Federer/Nadal.

Although I'd love to see that happen, you're asking for a lot!

I don't think she'll win everything she enters. If anything I could see her losing to a lower-ranked player that's on fire when Serena is doing a walkabout in the early rounds. Once she gets to the QF, it will be very difficult to stop her.

The current crop of top players don't have enough weapons, confidence or mental consistency. Vika is probably the closest, but her serve is a serious liability. Petra and Li have the weapons, but not the consistency or the belief. Maria is Maria. Aga, Sara, Angie and Kirilenko don't have the weapons. Stosur has fallen out of the top ten w/ her FO loss and isn't really good on grass, but could challenge at the USO. In my eyes, Sveta is the only person on tour who can really trouble Serena consistently on any surface.

I think these next 2 and half years are crucial for Serena in terms of getting the numbers she is looking to acheive, so she will have to be careful with her scheduling so she can be well rested and reduce risk of injury within that time span. Just because she can enter everything and more than likely win, it doesn't mean she should.

Serena said she wil ride this wave of good form until it subsides,at this stage in her life you never know if you will have this form again....kinda like make hay while the sun still shines.

Serena has almost scheduled smart, don't think that is going to change all of a sudden. In fact she tends to take the end of the year off after the USO with the exception of the YEC.
