RE: Who will will the French Open?

I am taking it a match at a time! I know who I want to win, but I don't want to put it out there until I see the trophy in her hands.

Well why not a surprise winner as Caroline she's no pressure other than surviving round one, so must be a peace of cake to win it all if. I know it's wishful thinking but let me have the dream at least for a while. Caroline deserves to get at least to the quarter final.

As per usual. If Serena is healthy she's the one to beat, but at RG you have to add, If Serena is mentally healthy she's the one to beat. I'll go with Serena. It's been too long and she's more than deserving of the crown.

Unlike the ATP where it's closer between the top guys, there really is a huge gap between Serena at her best (I stress at her best) and the rest of the WTA players. For her to have won 2 consecutive MS titles on her least favourite surface beating top ranked players in both finals just before RG starts, she's the clear favourite here.

You saved me from having to write it out. :)

Thank you once again, Kiu, for beginning a poll.

I'm glad you set a closing date. Very smart. On the old site there was no option for that, so you would see votes cast after deadlines, or after tournaments were over.

This is French Open, Serena has won it only once!
Martina only did twice!
Is Serena greater than Martina?

I doubt that will be the only margin for arguing between Martina and Serena. But I have to agree with the majority on this thread: Serena seems to be the player to beat.

My prediction is for Serena.

If someone can somehow take out Serena, then... Masha.

I agree with Alex. Pova must be praying for someone to beat Serena so she can defend. Losing the Rome and FO titles to Serena will be tough to swallow.

For a place in the final both Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova are the players to beat on their respective halves of the draw.

In a slam a lot of things can happen like surprise upsets, injuries and withdrawals and whatnot. We at least know that the champion has to win seven matches. For the rest we'll have to wait and see. Isn't that the thrill of a tournament especially in one of this magnitude?

I wish every participating player good luck and may they compete to the best of their ability. Aren't they who fall one after another in the various rounds the ones which make this a tournament worth seeing and should we not give them at least the appreciation they deserve? I wish to pay my respect to them all!

And BTW let's hope we can avoid to read all sorts of stupid comments about how the draw was fixed to favor some of the players. In my opinion a moderator should delete such comments asap

Serena. You don't have to be a genius to make her the favorite. The only minor danger for Serena is her FO phobia. If someone early on in the tournament can give her a close match she might perhaps panic a bit. Other than that she seems pretty much invincible at the moment. But you never know - a lot can happen in two weeks. If she somehow slips up somewhere along the way I think Maria is the most likely to win it. I also give Li Na a small chance if Stosur isn't in her section of the draw. I would be very surprised if someone other than Serena, Maria or Li would win it.

I feel like it is like one of those Oscar prediction things where you have a Should Win: Serena Williams and a Will Win: Serena Williams? (If she holds up and doesn't have mental flare ups)

Serena will be favourite, but if somebody is going to take her out, I'm seriously doubting it will be Masha.

Serena is usually susceptible to an unknown or lower ranked player. I think if it is to happen it will happen before the quarters. If she makes it past the quarterfinals, then all bets are off. Mama will fight tooth and nail for that trophy throwing everything into it to win it.
