Since it's the off-season, it must be time for a poll. We're mostly Fedal fans around here, but I'm wondering who people's top others are to root for. Because the Djokovic fans are mostly AWOL, I'm going to add him and Murray. I'm going to make a multiply choice poll, but feel free to give your top 2-5 or whatever, in the comments.

Part of my reason for making this post was a) I think @mrzz's 2nd favorite might be del Potro, but I could be wrong, and b) I was asking myself who my own 2nd favorite is, right now. It used to be Ferrer, but he's well-fading. My new #2 might be Sasha. WIP. But I thought, since things are changing a bit, it might be interesting to see who people are favoring, these days, and if anyone has a new favorite #2.

I must admit it is probably Dimitrov. And then there are a bunch of NextGen candidates; for some reason I like Rublev, but also Zverev, Shapo, Aliassime.

That said, aside from Roger, the player I'd probably most like to see win a Slam in 2018 is Juan Martin del Potro. I just feel his story is so tragic, and he's such a talented player who I think, if he hadn't been riddled with injuries, could have won 4-5 Slams by now.

My fav player is Sir Andy but I also love Juan, Sasha, Jack, David, Nole and Stanimal. hope to see a great 2018 with teh return of all injured players (a bad record in 2017) I missed Nole, Stan and Sir Andy in the second part of 2017 even if it allows Jack, David and Grigor to shine

My second favorite is indeed del Potro -- and it is a very close call to first place, to be honest.

I only ask not to tell this to my fellow Brazilians if a world cup final happens between Brazil and Argentina (and my hermanos win it).

I don't have one and it worries me as I have no idea what I'll do after Nadal is done.

Broken, I think it is like falling in love: you can't choose it, it just happens. But it is hard to "fall in love" when you're already in love. You might have to be "single" for a bit, but "love" will find you again.

A Brit if 1's playing. We don't get many winners so a British win is always nice. Then I go for the most popular 1's that everyone's heard of which in the 80's & 90's were John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, Pat Cash. Nowadays the most popular 1's are Federer & Nadal. When none of these win, I go for the 1 who I think has slogged the hardest & been the most talented. I like to see ace serves & people really trying their best & giving it all they've got not just letting the other player win.

You might be in love but you always have a type. Someone who’s going to get your juices flowing. For me.. Shapovalov, Stan and Grigor all get me a little tingly with those one handers

Ha, Dude: I was coming to write something similar. While I find Broken charmingly 'monogamous,' the post made me a little bit sad, including for myself. I have been actively trying to cultivate a young player to champion, esp. down the road, and I'll always keep hoping that Juan Martin wins another Major, but everyone is a distant 2nd to Nadal, for me. It's going to be hard to find the same enthusiasm for tennis when he retires, I fear. *sniff* :(

I had actually wondered about this, knowing the rivalry between Brazil and Argentina. I was in Uruguay for work when Argentina was playing Spain in the DC final a few years back. Half of my Uruguayo crew was rooting for Argentina, in solidarity with their So. American brothers and neighbors, but half were rooting for Spain, just to root against Argentina. Anyway, your secret is safe with us. ;)

Yeah, I feel you. I was only a casual fans before the recent era, but I'm wondering if some folks who loved, say, Sampras or McEnroe or Borg, never truly "fell in love" again - or at least not to the same degree.

Maybe we have the "love of our life," but on the other hand you never know...maybe you'll meet someone post-Rafa that takes you by surprise ;).

It's kinda true, right? When I began to cast my gaze towards Nadal, there was no way of knowing how closely his career would map onto Borg's, who was my first tennis love, but there it is. I've always loved clay tennis. And unlike you, the one handed back hand has never blown my skirt up.

As you see above, I'm a Borg woman who did find "love" again with Rafa. It was Safin who brought me back to tennis, after a long stint of casually keeping up. I worry that when this really great era is over in the ATP, it may be a bit of a letdown for a while. (Obviously, the ATP/ITF are worried about that, too.) I do think I'll stay engaged with tennis, and someday my next Prince will come, I'm sure. :lol6:

That is just not true. It is beneficial to the society, if people are monogamous. The bolded statement is a lie told in order to benefit the society. See the article titled monogamy is not natural to human beings .

Yeah, it could be rough but interesting in a different way. We are going to miss the Big Four (even Andy...sorta) when they're gone, but at the same time it would get boring if they just went on forever. I've already been hoping for some new young player to emerge for years now. I'm enjoying seeing Zverev, Shapo etc come up. Looking forward to the next era.

That's a larger topic. I tend to agree with you, but with regards to tennis I don't see many folks "in love" with more than one player, or at least most seem to have a "primary love" and then "secondary loves" that are much lesser.
