Who are you following when your favourite retires?

ATP have invested a lot of marketing in the #Netgen series of future stars, because no doubt they realize the Dimitrov/Nishikori era will be a vacuum... and the next generation will move into the void.

Which of the young guns are you nailing your flag to?

I'm liking Zverev, Thiem and Kyrgios... in that order. Allegiances still with Federer until the great man retires.

I'm already on the Raonic train (though it is a stretch to call him a 'young gun' at this point). Zverev is a bit compelling (saw him live in Basel a couple of years ago, did a double take when he walked on court he was so obviously a teen). Coric is interesting.

I can't get on board with Kyrgios yet. I like that he has character, I like that he brings attention to the tour.....I just don't like him. Time will tell though.

I started with a clay courter (Borg, then added Vilas #2,) went to a crazy Russian (Safin,) then back to a clay courter (Rafa.) Perhaps a tall, somewhat volatile (German-)Russian is my next? LOL. I see a lot of things to like about several of the young guys, and and I'm not against Kyrgios. (Maybe I'll take a crazy Aussie.) He's entertaining...sometimes. Potentially great. Verdict still far from in on the next group. But, like BB, I'll be sticking with my guy until he hangs 'em up.

I'm a fan of Zverev, and I really like his game (more so than Thiem), but I'll be honest, my main thing with a player is emotions. As in, for some reason, I end up liking them. It usually just happens, regardless of playing style (Rafael Nadal's game isn't what I typically look for in a player, yet he's my favorite of all time). It's sort of like falling in love. First it happens, then you start rationalizing it and start naming her/his qualities as reasons why you love them (all the while being oblivious to their flaws). That's one deep analogy right there. OK, not really.

Zverev is a good candidate.

I never rooted in particular for Brazilians, just for the sake of nationality, but I do have hopes for Thiago Monteiro, the guy who took down Tsonga in Rio this year. He comes from a state where there must be, wild guess, 5 tennis courts maximum, and he probably has the same fighting-the-odds story a lot of tennis players from here share (I saw some of them long ago). And the guy has a forehand...

Tommy Haas. He'll be 39 next March and hopes to return after his NINTH surgery. At this rate he'll still be playing at age 55!

There are some promising young players, but their problem, like for many from other countries, is the transition from juniors to professionals.

There is one 15 year old girl, Olga Danilovic, the daughter of former professional basketball player Predrag Danilovic, that is promising.

Felix Auger Aliassime from Canada. 15yo (185 cm), ranked #718. Already 7w/4l on ITF Futures and 2w/2l on Challenger Tour. I will follow him closely, he is improving well and quickly and may be a future great player.
