A bit of fun and mischief... How long will it take Rafa to mention the word "knees" in relation to his early Wimbledon exit?

There's me thinking you were suggesting he comes out straight and says it, that Darcis is a unt (the K is silent)...

I give him credit that he usually doesn't make excuses right after the match, he is a master at making them months down the road. So give it a month or two and we will hear of another "foretold death" at Wimbledon.

I sincerely hope there is no mention. I hasten to think it might be Uncle Toni rather than his nephew who would mention that as an excuse--if anyone does at all.

This sounds about right.

I am surprised you open this...he already mentioned the "k", saying it was a bit sore

Well, in fairness, I'm sure it WAS a bit sore. I mean, does anyone here believe Nadal plays with 100% knees? Obviously some movements are sore for him.

But he still played crap and Darcis was magnificent and that's why he lost...

sometimes it's tio tony sometimes it's Rafa. I doubt he will say anything this time since he has been saying for the last three months that it's disrespectful to his fellow player to complain about the knees while beating them to a pulp on clay. Maybe the commentators need to chill out

Absolutely right on both points. Probably Nadal's knees are always going to hurt him from now on, on any given day, but that's not the same as them being damaged. In the Darcis match, he didn't have his grass legs yet, AND he didn't play well, whereas the Belgian was terrific. No need to cite the knees. Though as tented and HY pointed out, he gets asked about them, and has to say, "I don't want to talk about the knee."

I know the thread was meant light-heartedly, but there is this creeping perception that Nadal is ungracious in defeat, which I think is unfair to him. He hasn't blamed every major defeat on injury. However, there have been a few times when the knees were breaking down, AND he ran into a stalwart opponent. (Soderling, Rosol.) I think we can hold both ideas in our minds: that the opponent played the better match, and that Rafa was reaching the end of what his knee(s) could take. It's not an excuse, it's a conflagration of factors. If those players had not gotten him, likely someone else would have. But in some specific matches, not every one.

For those detractors who will also talk about Nadal's knee issues, and the shortening of his playing life, then you have to accept that sometimes he's going to lose, in part, due to knee problems. You can't then say that he's a sore loser because he admits to having them.

btw, i couldn't help but notice that just two or three days after the historic british triumph and the most thorough Djokovic slam final loss in years, we have Fedal threads getting more attention than the new top guys, and hardly new dedicated Murrovic threads (instead, big 4 talk)... we really should start facing the music and shift some attention ;)

/kidding, of course, as most of the Murrovic talk is still channelled in the Final thread.

In fairness, apart from one or two, the Djokolites have vanished from the site. Since the Buddhist of Monte Carlo lost, there's only been Nehmeth and Herios and maybe someone else who's posted. The others maybe waiting til the HC's. And Andy has many admirers but only One Fan. So there wouldn't be a huge amount of posting new threads about them.

Everyone knows, anyway, that once the 'Nees are sorted, we'll be back living in a Ralphy realm...

Ralphy realm has been relegated to 3 months a year. The 'Nees are sorted then but magically fail him everywhere else

Unfortunately, that's been the case. The old muck is less damage for him, but let's hope IW is an indicator, and not just a statistic, and that it indicates that he can play through the HC season successfully as well...
