This may be a golden age for tennis in terms of the level of play, but it must be the worst for hair since the 1960's. Think back to the days when players actually had hair worthy of the name. There was Borg with his viking/Jesus look. Mac with his long rebrown curls and the red hairband. Connors with his Beatles circa 1964 look. Vilas, the wild poet from the jungle. Gerulaitis with his uncombed "sorry, didn't have the time because I spend all night at studio 54" look. Even Agassi with his Bonjovi wig. The iconic, no sleeves, long hair, Conan the barbarian look from Nadal. The ponytail didn't look that good on Fed, but longer hair than he has now does.
And what do we have now? A bald guy who paints his head black and calls himself Novak Djokovic. A Canadian fellow with no hair out of place (not even after three or four hours of play) who would have provided some serious competition for Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart in the 1940's. A Nadal who struggles more as his hair gets shorter (should tell him something, right?). A Murray who look like the guy who works in the shop around the corner. It would be enough to make one root for Ferrer because he's one of the few who often actually has any HAIR!
In short, all those serves, returns, forehands and backhands are all very well, but what is missing these days is hair! We want hair, hair, hair! Last warning: do away with that boring clean cut look or you'll be banned from the USO! :devil
