What are we all doing to occupy ourselves during the Coronavirus?

This is a bit of a chance for everyone to get to know each other & what their hobbies are. It might also give people other ideas of what to do with their time as they can't always do what they want due to the restrictions in place because of Coronavirus. They can't go out very often & socialise like they normally would.

I've read Mill on the Floss & 260 pages of Pride & Prejudice as well as the Winter orphan. I've nearly finished knitting a scarf. I've weaved a table mat. I've made a hat. I'm doing some of my archiving homework which is to use all the resources I have to write a report on the evolution of the horse from eohippus to equus przewalskii & equus caballus & man's relationship with the horse through time. It's fascinating. That's as well as doing things I don't want to do but sad news meant I have to do them & shopping for Mother.

This is literally the busiest period I had in all my life.

1) Family issues (closed ones passed away, not corona related, and this impacts people lives);
2) Lot of work to do, quite above average (I work from home, zero impact from corona);
3) Company/division I work for bought by another company, lots of issues coming out of it;
4) Finishing a new book that I want to publish in the next month tops;
5) Helping a local NGO here on an education project during the Corona crisis;
6) Wife works on the front line;
7) Kicking the wall for not being able to play some tennis;
8) Kicking the wall for not being able to watch some tennis;
9) Going to the hospital to treat the foot.

Missing a lot the conversations here. Hell, I am even missing the ones I hate.

P.S. Also we have to worry about the huge number of elderly people on our family -- and we cannot come close to them given that we are possible vectors. On top of that I have to deal with people in my own family that believe our president and keep treating cheap fake news as serious information. It takes 10 seconds for them to post shit in the family group, it takes one hour to debunk it... (later on I will tell about one example, it was absurd).

Since I typed the above I've finished knitting my scarf & reading Pride & Prejudice. Me & Mother are making a patchwork quilt.

I'm very sorry to hear you're so busy. Please ensure you take time out for yourself.
1. I'm very sorry to hear about that. It does. It causes a lot of work at the best of times. With this virus going about everything has to be done by phone or e-mail. You've even got to order the flowers over the phone. Only 10 mourners allowed which means you have to select them & some family members might feel left out or cause arguments. You can't hire a funeral car so have to hire a taxi if you can't drive & aren't within walking distance of the church or crematorium. There are other ways this virus is impacting what you have to do.
2. Don't over-work yourself.
3. I'm very sorry to hear that.
4. That sounds interesting. Tell me more.
5. Good luck with that.
6. I hope she's o.k.
7. Haven't you got a big garden? If so, you could get your wife to partner you when she's not busy or tired.
8. There are replays.
9. I hope your treatment is working.

We miss hearing from you too.

I know the feeling of helping elderly people. Mother is 70 so I do the shopping. It's doing Mother's head in. The rest of the elderly members of our family don't live near me & are looked after by my cousin & my Sister who is still going out to work as she works in essential services. She even got a letter to take with her whenever she goes to & from work in case she gets pulled up by the police so she doesn't get fined or dispersed.

There are some poets on a science forum I'm on. They've been challenging me to write limericks about the news which I've been doing while this virus has been on too. We've really had fun & it's been different as the only limericks I've written before have started with "There was an old man/woman from ..." & they're getting me to write limericks about anything. They're so helpful & encouraging.

I'm waiting for you to tell me about your example of family stupidity. I could do with a laugh. I wish my family stupidity was so harmless or I could reason with the family member in question. Thanks to this certain family member, we've had to deal with broken doorsteps, air vents knocked out or blocked off which we need to let gas escape, walls cracked, cupboards held up by screwdrivers, sink units broken, new ones put back in but not plumbed up properly so we have leaks, toilet lights broken, waste pipes missing & now we might become homeless because of him.

Unfortunately family stupidity is never completely hamless. I could tell the occasional joke, but I had to stand ground in order to prevent actions that would put people's lives at risk. There are people in my family who are in the precise categories that should not get Covid...

I'm very sorry to hear that. I was very stupid to judge but I appeared to have a huge problem caused by family stupidity but I've solved it now. I'm glad you stood up for people's H & S.

Right now after getting suspended from a Elvis forum, am getting back to this wonderful forum. Good to read up on various members posts like you, Margret , Tented and MOX. Last time i was here in february, i think Horsa was talking about and describing her role in researching and organising themed 1940s and 1950s music movies and fashion nights. Is that right ? You should put up some pictures here ! Bless you :)

I'm very surprised to hear about you getting suspended from a forum. You don't say anything offensive & you're mostly calm. I'm also extremely sorry to hear that. I'm glad you're back here. Aww, that's nice! The posters you've mentioned are a nice, interesting lot in my opinion. I think you're a nice, interesting person too. I was researching & organising 1940's events. I can't share photos though as I was put on organising & conducting the sing-songs & as my instrument is my voice I had to lead & get everyone singing. I've also had to help give talks on creativity & help the historians at work give a talk on Scottish history through songs. They spoke about the history & I sung the songs & got people to join in. I was put onto getting elderly people to sing. It was a break from cataloguing artefacts. Since the Coronavirus this was all put on hold. I couldn't conduct the 1940's sing-song I was due to conduct on V.E. Day. My archiving duties during Coronavirus have consisted of small research tasks, online training & writing a report on the evolution of the horse from eohippus to equus przewalski & equus caballus & man's relationship with the horse through time which I'm still writing the 1st draft for & then I have to put it into chronological order before re-writing it. When we go back I've to read it to the other archivist's. (I've got other archiving tasks to do but this is taking a long time as I've been told I have to use all the resources I have except my own head for this task which is hard because my 1st reaction is to look at the task & just write what I know.) My Manager phoned to see how I got on & thought it sounded fascinating so she's thinking about printing it too now. I got home-work for the creative side of my job which was to knit a scarf, weave & make hats. Thank you. :0)

Thanks. That must be challenging but also rewarding job (rewarding in the sense of getting the senior community motivating and i'm sure they're grateful of you and your colleagues. Speaking of 1940s i am going to import my World War 2 Propaganda Cartoons Collection topic to over here. Mostly these were Donald Duck, Looney Tunes. I'm sure you will like.

You're welcome. I have a challenging but fascinating & rewarding job. I love getting elderly people singing & seeing them enjoying themselves. I love singing myself. I loved teaching primary school children about life in the 1940's & they really enjoyed themselves. I love working with the historians who are friendly & fascinating people. I love my job. Cataloguing artefacts gets boring but I've got a varied role which offers me something to sink my teeth into while also giving me creative tasks which help me relax a bit sometimes. I work on my own initiative sometimes while at others I obey orders. They give me a wide variety of jobs mixing creative, mundane & fascinating tasks. I look forward to seeing your 1940's stuff. Thank you very much.

Don’t ask, don’t tell. ;)
I have a couple of problems on other forums too. I'm on a couple of science forums. On 1 I "listen in" to fascinating conversations about things like Cherenkhov's radiation which I found fascinating the 1st time I read about it. I normally write poems on the "your talent" section there. 1 of the problems I had there is you're not allowed to delete your posts. If you want 1 of your posts deleting you have to report it. Someone started picking on someone else & I wanted to defend the innocent party so I said something. I later changed my mind as I realised what I said might have put me in the firing line so I reported my post. I got a P.M. from the admin saying that she had looked at my post carefully & the rules & as my post didn't break the rules it was getting left where it was & my account was staying clear, I was still a good friend & she wanted me to continue to grace her site with my poetry. I can't get on now as my P.C. says her site can't offer a secure connection & 1 of our friends who are on the other science forum asked why I hadn't been on. (We're all on it.) On the other 1, I've got a poetry section there too, if you don't keep your threads active they get locked. Then you have to ask admin to unlock it. I don't push myself. If poems pop into my head I write them down. There are other poets there too. They're challenging me to write limericks & writing nice limericks about me but there's an unwritten rule in that thread that all replies must be in limerick form. Sometimes I struggle to say what I want to say in that form & I've been told twice to "Watch my metre". They did say I was talented though. Bless them! You've got 5 minutes to edit your posts.

(I enjoy writing limericks but like the choice of how to write things. I've had fun & they're nice, helpful poets but I don't like struggling to get things in the right structure just to be told to "Watch my metre".
