Venus has remarked that she cannot believe that this is still an issue today, especially since the matter was decided in 2007. In saying that women's tennis does not deserve the same prize money as men's tennis is to say that the WTA is inferior to the ATP. Some men on the tennis council argue that since women do not play the best of five, they deserve less money. I counter that both men and women train hard and work hard at their professions and deserve equal pay. Would we ever ask a female fire fighter or police woman to take home less pay because they might not have the same upper body strength as their male counter-parts? The work that goes into being the best at your craft is what is being rewarded with equal prize money.

Well Serena made mention as well that the slams shot down the women playing best of 5, so it isn't their fault as they were told no by the slams. You shouldn't pay someone less because someone doesn't want to offer you the same opportunity to do the same work. The women offered, and they were refused. If the men have a problem with it, then they can take it up with the slams. I doubt they do as do they really want to run the chance of scheduling issues if women's matches go 5 sets.
