Not much ladies action today, but we do have a couple of interesting doubles matches.

first on score card:
Louis Armstrong Stadium — Not Before: 12:30 P.M.
Women’s Doubles – Quarterfinals
Sara Errani (ITA) (1) / Roberta Vinci (ITA) (1) vs. Serena Williams (USA) / Venus Williams (USA)

The women's SFs are tomorrow, but I'm glad you pointed out these doubles matches. They will be worth watching.

Serena and Venus should always be ranked women doubles number 1 just because they are the greatest ever behind Martina N and Pam.. too bad we cant turn back time

Using that logic, Rafa should always be ranked number one in every clay-court tournament because he's the greatest ever. Do you think that should happen, regardless of the ranking of everyone else?

Well maybe not number 1 ranking but at least a top 3 seed.. Today match respectively should have been a final

You have to play to achieve the ranking, but Venus and Serena don't deserve a bye in that just because they are playing.

Why "maybe not number 1" for Rafa, but definitely so for Serena and Venus, if they're both the greatest ever?

Exactly. The same rules apply to all players. Seedings/rankings are based on math. They're not subjective interpretations.

And they are to be congratulated for that. But it still doesn't merit special treatment for them, or anyone else.

I thought you were making their beating the top seeded doubles team a part of the argument a few posts back about seeding the WS No. 1 because they're the greatest doubles team ever.

If that was not your attention, then I apologize.

I don't think that the top ranked women's doubles team feel the same way.. who would want to face them in the early rounds

So, today the defending champions in the men's singles, women' doubles, and men's doubles all lost today, and only one set won between the three.

Thank gosh Serena wasn't scheduled today.

Funny.. McEnroe just made the same point.. Why aren't the Sistas ranked number 1 or the other ranked teams would probably prefer that they were ranked.
