I don't think that the new Roger's strategy is going to work well against Isner, he will have to play like his old way if he wants to win, and even that....we'll see :popcorn

ESPN asked him after his match yesterday if he was going to use the SABR against Isner and he flat out said no, probably not because even Isner's 2nd serve is generally really fast. He'll probably do what he's always done against the big servers - use the pace to block it back, slice to keep it low at Isner's feet so he'll have to volley up. Could be a really close match, could be an upset for Isner, but hopefully the result is the same old, same old. Roger's got a tough draw - probably Berdych if he gets past Isner and then Murray or Stan in the semis.

Meanwhile, Nole, once again, gets the kiddies pool end of the draw going forward. Tsonga (world #18), Cilic (#9 and under-achiever) & Lopez (as old as Roger and #19). Seriously? Still trying to figure out how 2, 3, 5, 6 seeds all ended up in the same half of the draw with only 1, 4 (out in the 1st round), 8 (out in the 3rd round) and 9 in the top half. It's like - why not just write Nole into the final and be done with the top half. Can't see another Fognini-type upset with the 3 guys left his quarter. He's played Cilic 13 times and Cilic has only won 4 sets - 3 of them years (2 at Wimbledon, 1 at the French Open), so the likelihood that he'll string together 3 in one match is pretty slim. Ditto for Tsonga. Tsonga beat him in Toronto last year after Nole hadn't played for about a month but before that he'd lost 9 straight matches winning only 2 sets (French Open in 2012). Lopez is 0-for-5, hasn't played him since 2012 and has only won 1 set in 5 matches. An upset at the hands of from one of these 3 guys would be a miracle.

Are you ok, Tsonga is not even playing tomorrow. :snicker

LOL, No I'm not. I'm sleep deprived after a week of USO tennis. Help! :snicker

that's because you're missing 7. yes, 5 and 6 ending up in one half is a worst case thing, but not extraordinary; it only got lopsided because of 4, 7 and 8 underperforming (you might want to complain about 4 and 7 not withdrawing before the draw when they clearly weren't fit).

as to today: i really wasn't impressed with Fed's performance on Saturday. hope it's something he had to get out of his system. still, to play bad-ish and still win like that is probably a good thing. and the things Kohli did well at times (run like a madman, a few missiles on the run, some aggressive returns) are not exactly Isner's strengths. still, he could take a (tb) set for sure. i remember a very close first set in the IW final a couple of years ago. of course, there was the dc win. but uso is faster than both of these, i guess, and Isner needs the extra time more than Roger.

while he hasn't really shone so far, Stan should be strong enough to let the air out of the crowd and DY. Andy should have gotten into a groove by now as well and dismantle KA. Berdych and Gasquet could be interesting, but also cringe-worthy. i expect some mental meltdowns.

It's about time to see more competition and not like the previous tournaments when many players seemed to be in the "Limbo". Tsonga, Gasquet, Isner, Feli, Cilic are playing much better than the previous months and hope they can keep that good form the rest of this week

I am very interested in a double men match today. It features a guy from my old country Florin Mergea, who is teamed up with Boppana against the legendary D. Nestor from my current country who is teamed up for a change with Roger-Vasselin.
I am rooting for Mergea, who has stopped his career a few years ago and he came back and is doing very well.

Today Stan and Andy will have easy wins. Fed will win, but not easily.

The Berdych vs. Gasquet match will probably the most interesting and will go to 5 sets.

Man, Stan looks like someone died during his pre-match interview. He needs to get over whatever depression he's under. Yes, your business ended up on Front Street...time to get back to work.

Very good win by Mergea - Bopanna in doubles today, against Nestor and ERV

The men's doubles field is crazy right now. #1 and #2 seeds gone very early. So did Sock and Pops.
Almost all known teams have lost.

The issue is there are many good teams, the field starts to be very crowded.

The Donald's minutes are numbered. He's running on empty after consecutive 5-setters

Wawrinka had lost to young at the Open before I believe, so today felt a bit tricky but he wins in 4 sets! Who's next? Murray or Anderson?
