A few things of interest today:

1) How is Azarenka holding up?

2) Will Halep pull one of her surprise early GS exits?

3) How late will Wozniacki get on court, and will that affect her negatively? (What do you think, Hoergren?)

4) Where is Kvitova's mono these days? Is that a thing of the past?

5) Where's Muguruza's head lately? Is she completely over the Wimbledon loss yet, ready to look forwards, not backwards?

6) How much longer are players like Halep and Bencic going to keep up the doubles runs? Or will they realize at their level, at this time, it would be better if they concentrated solely on their singles runs?

On the Azarenka front, she seems fine other than blowing up at the umpire. Girl you were coasting in that match shut the hell up.

I didn't know Kvitova had minor? What is it about tennis that mono seems to spreading between so many players in the tennis communities yearly but not so much with the athletes of the other sports including soccer?

I thought Petra looked fantastic Tuesday night. Moreso than the mono, however, I worry about her asthma in the withering heat and humidity of early September NYC. I've always thought that's been an issue for her at the USO - when she gets caught in a P3tra spectacle, I think the weather conditions become incredibly tough on her.

Surprised more people aren't talking up Angelique. Not that I'm a fan (I find watching her game incredibly tedious, and usually end up rooting against her), but she won Stanford, and is a past semi-finalist. I think she has to be an underdog against Vika if they both win today, but Vika is capable of going off the rails mentally at any time, and Kerber just keeps showing up and playing that unspectacular, but successful style of tennis she is known for to great success.

I agree with you about Kerber. She has won 4 titles already this year. She could be a surprise. And it would be nice to see her back in the top ten.

Kerber is very fit match tough and efficient, will not give Azarenka errors...she has a very good counterpuncher game and will outlast Vika..

Kerber is a counterpuncher as you said and Azrenka is an aggressive player and the aggressive player usually will end up winning. So, I disagree with your conclusion.

But, it will be a tough test for Vika.

They say, US Open does not officially begin until a night match crosses the midnight mark
and it has happened today in the Caroline vs. Cetkovska match.

Let the games begin

After the 2nd round...

No. 1 Serena Williams
No. 2 Simona Halep
No. 3 Maria Sharapova (withdrew because of injury)
No. 4 Caroline Wozniacki (lost in 2nd round)
No. 5 Petra Kvitova
No. 6 Lucie Safarova (lost in 1st round)
No. 7 Ana Ivanovic (lost in 1st round)
No. 8 Karolina Pliskova (lost in first round)
No. 9 Garbine Muguruza (lost in 2nd round)
No. 10 Carla Suarez Navarro (lost in 1st round)

Only three out of the top ten are left. :cover

Time for a change in the Top Ten line up me thinks. Hopefully Kerber, Bencic, Svitolina and others can start rising up.

She's barely won any matches since she came out in that article saying she could defeat Serena here. It's not Serena's fault the USO is disorganized. She should focus her tirade solely on them and not mention any player's name.
