Lucie and BMS have pulled out of the doubles draw - Lucie has an abdominal injury.

Shame, since these two, who had never played together prior to this season, were looking to win their 3rd Slam of the year. And they met/bonded over a mutual love of breakfast tea, according to the story I read about their first meeting.

Bethanie is also playing mixed with Sam Querrey, and she already has one mixed Slam title this year (with Mike Bryan), so there is that.

Was surprised to see that neither Bryan is playing mixed at the USO. Gotta be the first time in well over a decade. I guess they want to focus solely on the mens dubs title, since they have not won a Slam this year.

I don't even have access to a stream at work right now, so I'm listening to this on the radio which is just as painful. Double fault bonanza by Serena and she still manages to eke out the 1st set

She will have to clean this play up for later rounds 8 df and 26 ufe in set 1. I wonder if something is wrong because her second serve is registering in the low 70s at times which is odd for her.

Serena is sluggish...I guess this is her first rd match.Kiki has a good game she probably needs to play more.Serena s family never seem to cheer her on everyone looks stonefaced...she really needs to see her family cheering for her.

That's is about as pitiful that Serena's can serve and play.. Whew.. Now Rena will drive the bus over the dutch in the 2nd set. IMO

Well it is hard to cheer on double faults and errors. She does have to give her family a reason to cheer.

Maybe Serena should play a set or 3/4 of a set before her real match starts - so she gets error-rena out of the way
