Caro is playing today, I don't know Ying Ying Duan of China, neither do I know Victoria Duval other than the fact that she is 17 and Haitian-American.

She has played in the USO, I believe last year where she lost in the first round against a top 10 player( I think Sharapova, but I might be wrong). She has a power game, inconsistent off the forehand and needs to learn point construction. This evaluation is usually the same for most young players, lol. She has potential but needs work.

Thanks, Colleen. Hopefully I'll be able to see some of the match, but I'm not sure how much of it they'll show. :)

Now, I remember Duval. She was 16 last year when she played Clijsters on the opening night. It was televised because Kim was playing the match right after the opening ceremony. Her parents are both doctors and she's been through alot in her young life. Colleen's assessment of her level is right on target. Here's an article that talks about her life.

Thanks, K. I remember her story now, too. TV movie-of-the-week material.

Christina McHale just took out Goerges in straight sets. Good for Christina, she has had a rough time of it lately and finally gets out of the first round in a tournament. As for Goerges, she is an enigma when it comes to her tennis. She has the tools and weapons, although her shot selection is sometimes horrid (she lost the match on a drop-shot attempt from just inside the baseline!). I really felt that by now she would be in the top 10-15.

I posted this the other day:

Watching the qualies and was impressed by another young American

Victoria Duval 17 just won her way into the MD 6 - 3 6 - 3.

She has good power on her groundies and good point consruction.

She has a diverse game hitting lobs, dropshots and net game.

Her serve however needs work. 7/9 break points and a good returner

She lost to Kim Clisjters last year

I watched her last Qualie match and She must have improved since

last year. The annoucers even commented on her point construction

She had good power and knew when to pull the trigger. But it seemed

she reigned in the power on her serve for accuracy after a couple of

DFs. I was impessed with her potential also. Just wish she hadn't drawn

such a tough opponent in the 1st rd. She prolly won't beat Stosur

But I'll be watching her progress in the future.

Well well after a little scare of a third set we saw the old Wozniacki batlle back from down 25 in second set to win 75. It was a tough opponent we're going to hear a lot more about. Duan has some heavy shots with a brutal force - little bit of Serena over it - but shots directly at her she didn't like and it's good that Caroline found out about that. Caroline was fighting today and it seems to me that she has the old spirited play back where she wants to win at every cost - nice to see and it definitly deserve a Carlsberg - so cheerio folks and congrats to Caroline (and Rory):clap:heart:

Duval has just lost the first set against Sammy, but she is holding her own. She has improved greatly over last year but still needs to work on her serving (first and second).

You gotta love this kid. She's having alot of fun out there and her variety of shot is giving Sam all kinds of trouble.

The kid breaks at 4-4 and will serve for the 2nd set.
