Ok folks. You know the drill. This is your one-stop place to discuss all upsets (projected, brewing and post-match discussions). What is considered an upset is left to your judgment.

Most important purpose of the thread is to alert other people so that people can tune in to the appropriate match and get some live glimpses of upsets.

I was lazy in starting this thread. We already had two upsets. Seed #32 Lauren Davis taken out by an unknown player. Seed #24 Kiki Bertens taken out by Sakkari (a Greek player IIRC).

Davis always struggles at home. Does better on the road for some reason. Bertens is better on the clay. She kind of disappears after RG just like some other dirt devils.

I'm still ticked off that the USTA gave Sharapova's cheating ass a wild card. They should have made her do the qualifying like every other player that didn't automatically qualify. Shame on them for even having her in the draw. They're not some small event that needs a big name to draw in paying customers. It's the richest tennis tournament in the world and they should be above pandering to cheaters just because their marquee name value.

The matches of the second day are not even over due to rain, but we already have seven upsets including the three biggies Halep, Kerbie and Konta. I predict that only 8 of the top 32 will reach second week.

Kristina Mladenovic lost to Monica, the only player who uses forehand slices, right in the opening round. KM is a disaster since
becoming seeded.

This is a bad result for her, consider the younger version of her reached 3rd or 4th round 2 or 3 years ago.

Only three days of play are over. But, already 14 of 32 seeds have exited including 4 of top 8.

This must be some sort of record. Can anyone confirm that.

After two rounds, 15 of the 32 seeds who were supposed to reach R3 actually reached there. This means 17 of them didn't live up to their seeding. That is less than 50%.

What is even more ridiculous is that of the top 8 seeds only 3 have survived.

Today there were three upsets, Strycova, Gavrilova and the big scalp of Kuznetsova.
