Here is your one-stop thread to discuss upsets. I am not going to bother to define what qualifies as an upset. Just use your judgement. You can predict upsets before they happen, discuss it while it is brewing and relish it after it is done. However, the main purpose is to alert other people to watch it as an upset is potentially brewing. So, in that sense this is somewhat like NFL Red Zone channel.

Thanks for being of service to fellow fans.

Here are couple of potential upsets on my radar, both on grandstand.

1. BMS, buoyed by her Olympic gold, might take out British #1 Konta.

2. Townsend, buoyed by home crowd support, might take Wozniacki who is on fast track to Oblivion with injuries.

That will be a tough match for Taylor. Caro will get her on a horse and she'll be too pooped to do anything else. Unless Taylor S/V every point Caro will win the majority of the rallies.

M. Doi and S. Errani two seeded players are out.

Alice Cornet is gone too. She is unseeded but I think expected to win this opener.

Taylor's pressor

American Taylor Townsend inaugurates new Grandstand with near upset of Caroline Wozniacki
''I could taste it, I was so close,'' said Townsend, who trains in the heat in Atlanta.

Maybe Taylor needs to choose her words more wiser:nono

Coco uncle Kiki was a very good offensive basketball player with a good attitude.. (he probably will be known historically now for being the one who awarded Draymon Green the flagrant foul after game 4 of the NBA playoffs that pretty much turn that series around for Lebron and the Cavs)..

Coco is not a Vanderweghe...she took her mother s last name that opened doors for her.Her mother was knocked up just like Vika and went on to marry someone else....her father seems to be some lowlife from New York..
Draymond Green was disgusting throughout the playoffs...no moral fibre at all.

Barbora Strycova seeded #18 is gone; ousted by Romanian Slicer. She is the highest seeded player to exit today.

# of seeded players going home tonight is 6. Pretty good casualty figure for a opening day. :)

Keys drops opener to Riske. Is there another upset brewing on Ashe?

I always said about Pova. Her plan A was to hit the ball hard, plan B if plan A isn't working, hit the ball harder. Keys is a Pova's disciple. No doubt she is the big babe ballbasher indeed. I think when she incorporate some topspin in her forehand..she will rule the game.

Ivanovic goes down in 2 sets to Allertova, 7-6(4) 6-1. Not all that surprising I guess, but her downward slide continues.

Daria Kasatkina and Kiki Bertens, two seeded players, also exited today.

May be WTA should consider switching to top 16 seeds, as it appears that being seeded 17 through 32 has almost no meaning in WTA.
