Usually is @GameSetAndMath who post these threads (I probably missed the correct tittle) but given that future GOAT hopeful (haha) just lost, here it is.

Use it primarily to preview upsets, but of course feel free to mock your favorite surprise loser and sorry fans.

I am feeling pretty upset by the Zverev loss, so might just linger in this upset thread for a bit.

:cry::cry:

...and listen to a few sad tunes.

Wonder if Rafa gave Verdasco the winning gameplan? I would guess yes.

If it didn't happen here, it probably would have happened later! It's hard to back up a Masters' win; esp. with the New-Gens! It just doesn't happen outside the "Big 4!" No one should be surprised; esp. with the competent play of Verdasco! I've seen him take the best of them to the limit in these early rounds; actually taking out Rafa at the AO last season! :clap: :dance3: :yesyes:

So disappointing to wake up (I live in Hawaii) and see Zverev out. Oh well. NextGen have had a terrible showing so far at Roland Garros - Zverev, Tiafoe, Escobedo, Donaldson, Medvedev, Rublev, Ruud, Bublik, Halys, Shapovalov all out in qualies or 1R. Only Kyrgios, Coric, Chung, Khachanov still in among players born 1995 or later. But wait, who is this Benjamin Bonzi?

I wasn't expecting him to win the title, but hoping for a deeper run than a first round exit! Verdasco played pretty well to be honest, although I held out hope he would bottle it when it got down to the business end of proceedings. He didn't need to - Sascha was having an internal tantrum and making a ton of mistakes.

Another notch on the learning curve for Sascha... I reckon clay will ultimately prove to be his worst surface, despite the exploits in Rome.

Tosonga was so gassed from previous weak in Lyon. I can't believe players like Gavriola, berdych, Tsonga, Wawrinka etc would go all out the week before the big dance. Gavriola deserved the loss because she went nutso playing so many three setters and playing as if her life depended on it the previous weak...should have saved the energy for this week.

To complete my sh!t storm day, Cuevas lost to a guy he should beat 6x6 6x2 6x2 6x2 6x2 ad aeternun on clay. That was today´s biggest upset.

I know upsets are often considered a lower ranked player beating a higher ranked player, but I think Carreno Busta on clay is better than Grigor, thus that wasn't an upset.

Verdasco and Cuevas is an interesting case, because Fernando is several years removed from his prime while Cuevas seems to be amidst a late peak. That said, peak Verdasco > peak Cuevas, so maybe Fernando just channeled a higher level - as older players are able to do sometimes.

I pegged Carreño Busta to beat Dimitrov, too, so no real shock. The surprise in the Verdasco-Cuevas match was the scoreline. Maybe Cuevas is having a sink, or a niggling injury after such a good season, but Verdasco is having another good run.

Potential upset-in-progress is Chung turning the tables on Nishikori, which is held over to tomorrow. That probably helps Nishikori, but Hyeon Chung making a good show of himself.

Hahahaha, I deserve that. I general that´s true, but particularly on clay, it is not. In fact, on clay this is far from true.

You did deserve that. ;) However, I disagree that it is "far from true" on clay. Verdasco, while he's a good HC-er, for a Spaniard, he also has solid pedigree on clay. Also he's a stronger server than Cuevas (except for those pesky DFs,) and he has bigger weapons, in general. I'm just wondering if Cuevas over-played in the lead-up to RG. On paper, their match should have been tight.
