Bring on the upsets. I have a premonition that there will be lots of upsets in this year's AO. Post your predictions, alert others of brewing upsets, gloat over upsets, grieve over upsets, brag over your predictions here.

On the opening day, I project the following three upsets.

1. Coco to oust ailing Vee.
2. Brilliant variety of Kasatkina will be enough to show the door for the one dimensional Madison Keys.
3. Following years of tradition, Samantha Stosur will lose on a show court (this year to American C. McNally).

Do you agree with the above? Got more to add?

I got Venus, Keys and Stosur to win this round.

Well I guessed right miss Zheng against Stephens :yahoo:

the commentators even mentioned tanking lol! she looked like she was sleepwalking during that Japan Giorgi match in September and didn’t even want to be there, nothing new in 2020

If I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s never to trust Stosur in her home country. :nono:
I know, but I was feeling sentimental for all the Aussies this year. The Venus/Coco was a hard choice, and I'm happy for Gauff.

Time to do projections for day 2. I project the following two upsets. However, there will be several more upsets.

1. Young Cici Bellis to take out T. Maria
2. Kastkina to show the door for Keys.

The second one was projected on day 1 itself, but the match got postponed.

It would not surprise me if Maria Sharapova is defeated by Vekic.BTW why is a 145 ranked player Sharapova playing on Rod Laver for starters?....where they put Halep vs Brady match on Margaret Court Arena at night? does not make sense to me.

Like it or not, this is one of my arguments for equal pay: If a player is marquee, it doesn't matter her/his ranking. Aren't we all curious about that match? It's not always about the rankings, it's about the popcorn, and butts in the seats.

I would not call Sharapova a marquee player? Media has always loved Sharapova, regardless that she is a drug cheat and not the player she used to be,the only reason she is playing the AO is that she was a former AO champion in 2008, received a WC, if not she would have had to play qualifers like others of her current ranking.

Like it or not, she's box office.

Note that Vekic is wearing the standard Nike pajamas look, and Maria is wearing her own color. Like it or not, Nike thinks she gets her own say. That said, back on serve in the 2nd set.
