Jo-Wilfried Tsonga seized his third Metz title with a win over old foe and compatriot Gilles Simon 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-2.
It was Tsonga’s fourth appearance in the finals and a repeat of the 2013 final where Simon prevailed.
Tsonga had to fight hard to win the opening set, saving six break points before finally prevailing 7-5 in the tie-break.
The second set saw Simon race away and clinch the set 6-1, holding off numerous break point opportunities for Tsonga.
Tsonga rediscovered his zest in the deciding frame matching Simon and then breaking for a 3-1 lead.
He didn’t look back and saw out the set and ultimately the match in just over two hour and a quarter hours.
