It's funny, I looked at numbers 10 through 5 and I didn't find Federer. I was quite surprised. Then I realized he's in the top 3.

19 aces per match is utterly insane when you think of the fact that most matches are a best of 3.

Ivo is the king of aces, always been for me.  To do it in the least amount of matches, it is really great.   He is proud of his achievement and plans on playing till he is in his 40s, I read an interview with him in Serbian.  If he remains healthy, hopefully so.

Aces per match is a more sensible stat. I'm actually surprised Federer is still in the top 10 (since the data) has been collected. Also surprised Goran isn't higher up!

also the stats do not include singles matches in davis cup ties ?..why not though ?.

Are you not also surprised by Lopez? I think that's what both built their careers on. Both are/were a bit S&V. Interesting to note how the Major winners fit on the list. Not so high. Aces are not democratic, and they can lead to boring play. And clearly, they are not indicators of a well-rounded career.

Yeah, they are not indicators of a well rounded off career, but I read that both Karlovic and Raonic take pride in their serving and work on it and practice a lot.

Nothing against having a great serve, and I bet they do practice it. It's their bread-and-butter. But it's only one aspect of the game, and I'm just pointing out that the major winners are not the highest on that list, which I would say tells us something. I will say that the biggest servers of today have been working on their all-court games, with some success. That would be Karlovic, Raonic, Isner and maybe put in Anderson. All of those guys are 6'8 or 6'9, except Raonic, who's a shorty at 6'5. Which might go some way to explaining why he's spent more time in the top 1o. It's not easy to drag those big bodies around. They don't hold up well in the baseline game, though, which is today's common currency. Let's face it, the height advantage is what these guys have to trade on, so of course they make the most of it, and that would be on the serve. I always liked Roddick's quote about Isner: "It's like being served to from a tree."

Thing about the Karlovic serve is, we sometimes for argument's sake imagine what would say, Nadal be like with Karlovic's serve (spoiler: unbeatable), but what's more interesting to me is not what would the top guys be like if they had that serve, but what would someone like Garcia-Lopez be like (just a random name I can think of), because I think we could be talking about a multiple time major winner.

The problem with that hypothetical is would he have put as much effort into the rest of his game if he had that type of serve? It would be an interesting scenario, but so many things contribute to the mindset of people, it makes me wonder

It's pretty much impossible to have an adequate all around game and a serve like that. For starters, it's physically improbable to say the least since you need to be of a certain height/size to have that kind of serve, which is going to affect your movement and therefore pretty much everything else. But for argument's sake, in a parallel universe where this is possible, yeah I think even average players like Garcia Lopez would be major winners with a serve like that.
