I was born and lived there and I have "some connections" but I am not living there at present.
I have a "heavy influence" and I feel close to these people in my own way. I speak the language.
I am not exactly "them" but I feel close mentally and culturally. I have a lot of influences..

I think she half expected the negative reaction from the public. But she didn't care and just gave an honest answer.
