I read what people mention as the best matches of this year so far and I noticed that on all the surfaces No1e's matches are mentioned most frequently.

On hard courts people say the best was round 4 of AO between No1e and Stan the man

On clay FO semi between King of clay and No1e

On grass and the best of them all No1e vs Delpo

What are your favourites to rival these matches?

This year, they'd be my favourites too.

Yes, that's what happens when you read Djokovic fan sites. ;)

Favorite match of the year (thus far), is Djokovic v. Del Potro at Wimbledon. Consistently high level of tennis from beginning to end. Riveting.

The Wimbledon match and the 4R at AO are a tie IMO. As far as best of 3 encounters go I thought the 3 consecutive 3-setters DP played at IW against Murray, Novak and Nadal were great theater. I have to give some props to Haas because I thought his Miami 4R win over Novak was the best I've seen him play in a couple of years.

Wimbledon final and MC final were not great matches. They were enjoyable to those who wanted a certain outcome, but let's be real.

MC final was a great match because it was played by the best two players on the surface and they both played on very high level. The score went one way in the first set, but that is largely because of points somehow going No1e's way towards the ends of the games, not because Rafa didn't play well. In the second set it looked even until the last two games when No1e managed to lift the game and exclude King of clay from the game. Now when you manage to do something like that - to exclude the best clay court player ever on clay then your game is exactly perfect.

It was an impressive win, no doubt about it, but don't you think their Roland Garros semifinal was better in terms of overall quality?

I will give you that Nole played especially well that day. Very deserved win. It is not my memory, however, that Rafa played so well. I believe he lost the first set 2-6, and couldn't manage to get the match to a 3rd set. That's not really a classic match.

:snigger :laydownlaughing

So many things wrong here, to help you out I italicised them and put them in bold, then I underlined them.

Nadal was sh1te in that final at the moments where he's usually great. But that's fine, he was still working his way back, and Nole did play his best. The semi in Paris was a great match because at the Big Moments, they both raised their game and the level in the fifth was insane.

The match between Nole and del Potro was a great match. I thought the semi between Murray and JJ was better than the final, if only because Nole chickened out of the scrap in the final. It might be the Neo-Buddhist in him: too much Om and not enough Oomph....

:laydownlaughing Kieran, you are a funny man. There's no need for anyone (Mastoor) to buff up Novak's win by saying that Nadal played his best tennis. He still took him at MC when no one had for 8 years. I'm pretty sure Nadal could have beaten anyone else that day, and possibly even Djokovic, if he hadn't played as well as he did...such is the meeting of man and court. But Nole saw the challenge he faced, and he met it. All rightful kudos.

Their SF at RG was a far more interesting, and, of course, 'weighted' match, even though Novak didn't play at the same level as MC consistently. He found it to take the 2nd and 4th and bring on a nail-biter of a 5th.

Didn't think much of the RG semi this year personally apart from set 5 as the wind at the start of the match caused far too many pusher rallies with no pace for my liking. Loved the others mentioned by everyone, especially Del Potro v Djokovic at Wimbledon. Another match I thought was great was this one below. Seriously didn't think Dimitrov had it in him to win after all the blown chances in the matches he had before that against Djokovic again, Murray and Nadal. Serving for sets in the first two and hit tons of double faults and then 4-4 in the 3rd against Nadal had a letdown and lost a match he had chances to win. Not many players out there have scored a 6-2 set against Nadal on clay. His lack of stamina let him down there again. So I was pleasantly surprised to see Dimitrov fight through pain and cramp and have the determination to win this time against Djokovic in an entertaining match. Shame he's done pretty much nothing since that win though.
