What are your tennis pet peeves? My most recent tennis pet peeve is the "tweener". Fans love it. TV commentators love it. Seems like everyone in the stands loves it. I, on the other hand, do not like it. Seems to me to be showboating. Other pet peeves are...grunting, excessive ball bouncing, and constantly yelling at your team/box. I have others. But this will suffice for now.

Grunting every time they hit the ball. I'm like "just hit the ball for heaven's sake". It got that bad I've started using the mute button while watching & taking notice of the score from the screen.

Yelling at your box and holding your leg as if you have some sort of injury to blame for missing a DTL by six feet... I don't expect the same response from Andy Murray fans.

I'm an Andy Murray fan but mainly because I'm a patriotic Brit & we don't get many winners so it's good for us to have winners for a change but he's been getting injured a lot recently. I'd love for him to get up to speed again & net Britain some more wins but how he's been playing recently even when not injured I can't see that happening. Credit where it's due though he did try to work through his injuries. I'm a big believer in meritocracy though so really as long as the best player wins in the end, I'm pleased for them. Best man/woman wins. Good luck to them is what I say.

Azarenka grunting must be the worst. I think she does it to distract/intimidate the opponent. She should be penalised for that stuff.

Taking too much time between points in whatever way is also pretty annoying.

Rafas ticks.

Jim courier oncourt interviews.

Crowd interfering in points.

Hawkeye calling just to disrupt rhythm.

There seems to be three types of grunting of which I'm aware...
1) "Normal" grunting: Grunting in concert with striking the ball. eg Nadal
2) "Delayed" grunting: Grunting after the ball crosses the net. eg Ferrer
3) "Shrieking": See WTA

All are annoying, in my opinion.

Limited to the first two...Which prominent (top 50) players on the men's tour rarely, if ever, grunt? Berdych first comes to my mind. Who else ya got?

I agree. When that happens, I'm thinking "Just serve. Will you?".

Definitely. None spring to mind because I've forgotten the old ones & I use the mute button while watching now. I get to watch the game & don't have to hear the grunting so I'm in a win-win situation.

I'm imagining your look of disgust on the Kyrgios tweener vs Dimitrov while pulling out the old VHS recorder and the Barry Sanders, Detroit Lions 1994 Playoff season tape.

Barry Sanders could lose 15 yards on a carry and you'd be like...This guy is amazing!!! And I never liked the Lions. But I loved Barry Sanders!

Funnily enough I don't have much of an issue with grunting when it's consistent. I do have an issue when the timing of it is a bit dubious. For me some of those most guilty of that are: Serena, Janowitcz and Rafa. I'm sure there are others but I've certainly noticed it with those 3.

To be clear... when I say the timing is dubious, I'm not talking about grunting when the opponent is about to take a shot. I'm talking about when these guys are quiet until a key moment in the match then they start grunting loudly. This isn't tennis, it's gamesmanship and highly irritating

So you don't mind them grunting as long as it's done at the right time like an actor or singer coming on stage & delivering the right lines at the right time.

I hate grunting in general, but I think it's more dubious when it's congruent with the opponent striking the ball as opposed to intermittent grunting.
Also...I hate black socks with white shoes...and tennis fashion, in general.

haha! You could characterise like that I guess. My point is, if it's your normal on court demeanour that's fine. But with some of these guys they really play up the grunting at critical moments. There's no doubt in my mind that it's meant to distract and to me that's cheating

Haha! It was the best example I could think of at the time but according to Shakespeare "all the world's a stage & all the men & women merely players" which would make a tennis court a stage too. Lol. I got your meaning. It's used as a distraction technique which would make some people lose concentration which is cheating.

Pet peeve: Juan Martin del Potro's and John Isner's constant on court moping and lolly-gagging. They are the slowest players on planet earth. God forbid they ever play each other!

It's funny because I'm a fan of Delpo and I can't stand Isner, but in this I'll have to say that I think Isner is genuine in that he's paying the price for his physical disadvantages. Delpo on the other hand plays possum in true Argentinian style and it can be annoying
