The Tournament:

The Tata Open Maharashtra, India’s only ATP World Tour stop, is one of three tournaments held in the opening week of the season and will be held in Pune for the second time in 2019. Former champions of the ATP World Tour 250 event, which used to be held in Chennai, include former World No. 1s Pat Rafter and Carlos Moya.

About Pune

Pune is a sprawling city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra with a population of just over 3 million.

It was once the base of the Peshwas (prime ministers) of the Maratha Empire, which lasted from 1674 to 1818. It's known for the grand Aga Khan Palace, built in 1892 and now a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, whose ashes are preserved in the garden. The 8th-century Pataleshwar Cave Temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.

Bit of a drop-off from the Brisbane and Qatar talent pools.

Due to the ATP cup team event that is being held before AO, this event is getting moved to February (in the Post AO, Golden swing period). As a result expect this tournament to lose heavily in stature, which it does not have much to begin with.

I was disappointed today by Felix AA. He came through the qualifiers and met another qualifier Karlovic. Dr. Ivo is ranked 100, just slightly better than Felix who is ranked 109.
Dr. Ivo will turn 40 next month and I am not expecting anything anymore from him at this stage.
I would have not been upset if Felix would have lost in tiebreaks, knowingly Ivo, but he was broken in each set and that is very dissapointing.

That's too bad. I was hoping to see him come through that one, too.

There's an enigma if ever there was one.
Not really. If you read more about him, everything makes sense.
Initially a spoiled young man, later he became serious, when he reached top 10. Then his downfall came due to injuries.
Now he seems healthy again thus getting better results. That is in a nutshell his career storyline .

That's a very simplistic view of him... he's been wildly erratic throughout his career - serious or not.

I agree with you on this. He committed briefly, and injuries don't explain the rest.
