The Tournament:

The Apia International Sydney is one of the oldest tournaments in the world, dating back to 1885.

The Sydney Cricket Ground was the first venue for what was then called the New South Wales Open, followed by Double Bay and then White City, which hosted the event for 76 years through 1999. In 2000, the event moved to the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, which also hosted the Olympic tennis event that year, and where the combined ATP/WTA event continues to be held the week before the Australian Open. About Sydney

Sydney, state capital of New South Wales and Australia's largest city, is known for its iconic landmarks such as the harbour bridge and Opera House, with its distinctive sail-like design.

Darling Harbour and the smaller Circular Quay port are hubs of waterside life, with the arched Harbour Bridge and esteemed Royal Botanic Garden nearby. Sydney Tower’s outdoor platform, the Skywalk, offers 360-degree views of the city and suburbs.

Located on the east coast, the population of the city stands at just under 5 million and the metropolis sprawls towards the Blue Mountains to the west.

Residents of Sydney are known as "Sydneysiders". Sydney is the second official seat and second official residence of the Governor-General of Australia and the Prime Minister of Australia and many federal ministries maintain substantial presences in Sydney.

Tuesday Results

Jared Donaldson (USA) beat Gilles Simon (FRA) 6-1 6-4
Alex De Minaur (AUS) beat Fernando Verdasco (ESP) 6-4 6-2
Feliciano Lopez (ESP) beat Aleksandar Vukic (AUS) 4-6 7-6(5) 6-3
Leonardo Mayer (ARG) beat 8-Mischa Zverev (GER) 7-5 6-3

Good win for young Aussie Alex De Minaur taking out Verdasco. He's got Hewitt as a mentor.

This field seems weaker than that of Maharashtra Open, Pune, India.

Not just seems, it is. Is also weaker than Auckland, where, the top seed from Sidney, who is Ramos, was going to be seeded only 6.

Medvedev (21) vs. De Minaur (18) for the final - two Next Genners; it will be the first ATP title for the winner. Medvedev lost the Chennai Open final to Roberto Bautista Agut and at almost 22 is due. De Minaur had a nice little run about a year ago and then kind of stagnated.

If Medvedev wins, he'll rise to the cusp of the top 50; if De Minaur wins, he'll be right on the edge of the top 100 and could breach the top 100 before he turns 19 next month.

Medvedev won his first title. Now all 3 young Russians: Khachanov, Medvedev and Rublev have one title each

I was really impressed by what I saw from Medvedev at Milan. I don't see him as a future elite, but could see him in the top 20, and maybe breach the top 10 on occasion - sort of in the Almagro/Simon "third tier" range. Similarly with Khachanov. Rublev will be better than that.
