The Tournament:

The SkiStar Swedish Open in Bastad was voted by players as the ATP World Tour 250 Tournament of the Year for 11 consecutive years from 2002-13.

The clay-court event, which has been held every summer since 1948, has consistently improved its venue and tournament.

In 2011, Robin Soderling became the first multiple Swedish titlist since Magnus Norman in 2000.

About Bastad

The town of Bastad is located in a sheltered bay with the Hallandian ridge stretching behind it. The town borders the shore, whereafter the terrain raises until the dense vegetation of the ridge takes over.

The first city privileges were granted in the 14th or 15th century when the area belonged to Denmark. The first certain date is 1513 when it was re-granted. At the time, the name in print would translate to "Boat (landing) place".

In 1658 the area was conquered by Sweden, and Bastad was given new "special" privileges in 1664, because it was of a too insignificant size to receive the full royal charter as one of Sweden's cities. The minor privilege allowed the town to be used for commerce, handicraft and hostelry. The minor privilege was in effect until 1858 when it got proper rights as a merchant town, or koping. It has been the seat of Bastad Municipality Bastad since 1971.

I don't pay that much attention to smaller events, but I seem to remember Garin was getting all kinds of buzz! What happened? Like Chung and so many others since, if they get too much notoriety the pressure/mental exhaustion hits along w/ the physical demands I guess!

In fairness, I find Chardy one of the most unpredictable characters in the top 100.

Jarry will play Londero who beat him in Cordoba in Feb this year on the way to his first title. Jarry leads h2h 2:1. Maybe it's payback time now and he can win his first atp title.

Jarry is scheduled to play Alex Zverev in the first round of Hamburg. That is a tough draw for the guy who is struggling this whole season. They played close final in the tournament just before RG which Zverev won in a 3rd set thriller TB.

Londero had set points in the first, but Jarry saved them and then won it. Tight contest, but Jarry has a very big serve.

Glad to see Jarry won this. Hope he starts doing better on slams and bigger tournaments.
