First slam final for Stan; besides the anxiety that comes with being there, he's 0-12 against Nadal and 1-13 against Roger. That's a tall task for the big guy.

Robin Sopderling faced a similar uphill task when he met Roger at RG in 2009 in the final. I want to see in comparison how he will handle it.
He has one little advantage, he played one match less than his next opponent, benefiting by a WD by Pospisil.

That's a pretty insignificant advantage to be honest. He'll need Nadal and Fed to play a marathon with Federer coming off as the winner to make things slightly more interesting, and even then...

I think stan has a real chance. He beat Novak for the first time this week.

Boy I hope so, but I am doubtful. He did not have to play his best against Novak to win. He made two sets tight for the first time against Rafa at the WTF, but that was a surface which Rafa doesn't particularly like. I am expecting the worst, but hoping for the best.

Precisely--tonight's match is likely the final.

Congrats to Stan, he worked hard for it. Beating Nole down under is no easy feat. I mean, 3-4 years ago Roger played some of the best tennis of the tournament against Nole and still lost in 3 sets.

I think Stan has a slightly better chance against Rafa, and I am talking really marginal. That's because Roger does not give you time to dial in, with his attacking style. He will be on the run all night. Rafa , on the other hand, gives you a bit more time to swing. On the flip side, points with Roger end quickly so you can stay fresher somewhat, but with Rafa, it can be a long and tiring night for the legs.

Either way, good job Stan The Man !

That's a match-up issue between them. Stan vs. Rafa or Roger is a whole different story. Keep in mind that with Rafa, not only has Stan never won a match; he's never won a set. Not one set in 13 encounters. That's very different from Stan and Novak having had some highly competitive matches, then suddenly winning the latest.

I like Stan a lot, and have for years. I'm delighted he's made the final, so I'm not just being anti-Stan. I just don't see how he could possibly beat Roger or Rafa in a best-of-five set Major final.

I hear ya, and I am not predicting him to win, but I think he will be there to play and less mentally intimidated. I stand by it, has a chance. Although certainly not the favorite. I give him a better shot against roger, because he is more prone to let downs.

Pretty much, although their last encounter at the WTF was a step in the right direction for Stan. Even though he did not take a set, they both went to tiebreaks, and it was mostly tight throughout. Then again, that is only one match and it was indoors on hardcourt, so how much to take away from that is questionable...

Congrats to Wawrinka for making the final! At this rate (see Soderling and Wawrinka), Magnus Norman is gonna be a hot commodity in no time.

I agree with now! And I've always call Stan-Stan the Man-because I never can say his name correctly

Ok, so he played a top notch first set and break for 2-0 2nd set and this match will be remembered sadly more for Nadal's injury than Stan's great start before he imploded but not a bad record to win your first slam final either way. It was actually looking dodgy in the 4th set and I thought Nadal, dodgy back and all, may win in 5 as Stan went to pieces. So it was commendable he actually came back and won it in the end.

I bet Isabelle is happy. :D

Had every belief that the first, 2nd, and third set would look like Stan's 4th. Thought I was being magnanimous to say he'd win his first set ever against Rafa. He did way more than that. Congrats.
