"I have been saying it since he entered tennis. Surely he will be one ofthe bestsportsmen ever. All of this it's because he was sent from God. As a family, we tried to make God's wish come true. He can win other 10 Grand Slams," Srdjan stressed

Novak's mother made a similarly odd comment about him being a child of God, some years back.

@britbox : There are two threads on this. Perhaps you could mash them together. Thanks!

I can't find another thread Moxie?

Very bullish comments by Srdjan

Normal for Srdjan, he claimed in 2008 that the king is dead (Fed) who went on to win a half dozen more slams and was still top ranked in 2012. Novak is actually very unlike his obnoxious family and fans.

It was his mom that said that. I'm sure he's very unlike his parents, (seriously...such a good egg. Always a cuddle at the net.) Though he hasn't disavowed this, that I've seen.

Well, when No1e was 7 or so, No1e said on national tv he will be world number 1 some day, seventeen years before he became one, so metaphorically or actually, no matter how much each of you hate that, he is the chosen one.

As i said before, Djoker is the nice one. He is a true and genuine entertainer (which tennis players are in essence), and if anyone ever wants to be a fan of someone, he is a great choice.

we are all children of god.

I guess you must be from some other planet.

I see absolutely nothing "odd" about that remark. it is the kind every mother would make.

we are all special and sent by a god in our mother's eyes.

and his dad is right: who the hell is going to stop djokovic?

andy does not have a dominating forehand and roger is 50 years old. roger, to his credit, is at least trying.

at least roger has the guts to try to challenge djokovic. he will never give up trying.

what is "similarly odd" is that you just cant stop or restrain your propensity to pick holes in people.

how about just staying on the subject of tennis than to go attacking these player's mothers and fathers.

djokovic's parents have every right to believe that their son is sent by a god. he is.

I said ages and ages ago at MTF that djokovic was an all time great. and that people would know one day.

those morons at MTF laughed at me.

That Djokovic has turned out to be as gracious as he is is a miracle in and of itself. *shakes head* I truly hope that some of what his parents say gets lost in translation. Surely Nole's superior language skills help him immensely in dealing with the press.

As for when will he lose and who will beat him, all you need to do is look at history. Somebody will beat him, he will lose eventually. It will happen. Mats Wilander is a great case study. On top of the tennis world in 1988, wins 3 Slams, seems unbeatable. Then.....the following year 0 titles including getting knocked out early at both the AO and USO. What happened? I don't know. Perhaps a combination of things including up and coming talent that was on the radar or not.

Either way, I cannot take anything that Novak's parents say seriously. Maybe the press only reports on the parents who are wacko: John Tomic, Jim Pierce, Damir Dokic et al.

Novak is far stronger all round player than Wilander IMO, but I take your point. Re: Tennis parents - Agassi's book was comical when it narrated the meeting of his and Steffi Graf's father... both very dominant parents.

I'm not comparing Wilander and Djokovic as champions, no.

It is just unpredictable when a player will begin his decline. The modern game definitely facilitates longer careers vis a vis improved physio and training, ease of travel and the combination of pressure+support that the team provides for the player. Harder to quit when you're the star salesman of a corporation.

Nole's parents sacrificed everything they had and worked hard so that they could afford to send him to train in a proper tennis camp. His first coach even said that they couldn't send him to all the competitions that all young tennis players needed to go to, and his development was hampered by their harsh economic situation. They never forced him to play the sport that was so out of ordinary for these people, but Nole was determined to continue. So in order to give Nole everything they could, parents and two younger brothers had to suffer. The odds of him making it #1 in the world in tennis were so low that even they probably didn't believe it would ever happen at some point in their lives. So I understand how happy and rewarding all this is for them. And they are not wacko, they are just proud parents. I guess you had to live through the conditions and situations they faced in order to have some idea why they love and praise him so much. There are lots of parents that sacrifice a lot for their kids, but sometimes their kids don't achieve their full potential. So after all the tough things they went through for somebody to call their son and basically all their efforts a joke was like a slap in their face.

In one of the interviews for Serbian TV, Nole's mom said that they learn from him every day. Janko once said that the rest of Serbian players are 10% better just because of being around Nole. Call me nuts or wacko or whatever you want but even I think that he is an inspiration in life and a special guy.

so that gives them the rights to criticise other players? never heard that from Fedal's parents......or it's ok because they had to tough it out?

Rafter was just as poor, he shared hotel room with 3-4 guys so he could afford to go to tournaments and didn't have success early on. I guess his parents should just foul-mouth all his opponents because they did it the 'tough' way....hmmmmmm
