I know the ATP's sportsmanship competition isn't at this time, but why wait when we have a definite winner here.
After what transpired today, even if I largely dislike him, I was surprised. If he yelled TOWEL anywhere else but a tennis court, they would have him locked up in an asylum. Also, since I know Serbian, I will tel you that he was spwing swears that you barely hear from lowlifes, let alone AN AMBASSADOR of the sport. How can ayone tell me that this guy can be a role model, that he is calm, or cool under pressure I will never know. Even Murray shuts up at some point. This guy went all the way, and he still won, thanks to the HUGE concentration, belief and determination of his opponent. And of course, after the match, no matter how much it means to you, yelling like some jungle animal isn't really respectful. But who cares, eh?

The world number one and his on court antics in the match against Anderson, if it wasn't clear or if you didn't watch it.

Nadal has done the same recently. A ball kid had the misfortune of not giving him a second towel, or whatever his ritual was at the time. Murray has the worst potty mouth as we know. Only Fed RARELY shows that kind of behaviour. All that said---so what?

They all swear from time to time on court. Nadal has shouted "puta" at the ball boys before too.

Has he really? Must have missed it.
But you are right, so what? Who even likes people with self control? Why don't we just all scream and swear at every little thing that happens to us? Mr Djokovic should have slapped that dumb ball girl for not bringing him a towel the moment he wanted it.

Sure we all know Nadal is a saint. Obviously he was saying "putaway the towel, I don't need it now" :snicker

They are surrounded by people; linesmen, ball boys/girls, spectators, etc. In the heat of the battle, you're bound to mutter an obscenity or two. They're only human for crying out loud. And no matter where they say it, someone will think it was directed at them. I haven't seen this Djokovic yelling at a ballgirl yet though...

When? There's a difference between uttering the word as you're asking for a towel and actually calling the ball boys "puta," which you seem to be implying.

But of course, this will still get agreements and likes from people who have never noticed Nadal ever saying this before, otherwise they would have brought it up since they'll never miss an opportunity to smear him.

Nadal is no saint indeed, but I don't recall him ever going so far as to insult ball boys, and I think I've watched him enough throughout the years.

Also, years of evolution and human beings still don't understand that using the "oh, but X person has done this as well" excuse is in fact, not an excuse.

It would be one thing if something is common, and almost everyone else does it (like say, swearing on court, coaching, etc...), but when something is clearly wrong, noting that a few other players have done this in the past does not make it OK.

Sorry, Novak's behavior is usually fine, but this was embarrassing. You're a top player, she's a ball kid, but you have no right to talk to her like a spoiled brat. Not as embarrassing as Nadal pumping himself up after saving match points against Brown of course, but embarrassing nonetheless.

It was a match probably a few years ago. People on the old boards were talking about it and yes that means there will be no link or video, etc.

What I'd like to see is at least ONE of these prima donnas thanking a ball/towell kid...just once.

I'm sure they do, but it's not likely to be on camera and/or picked up by on-court mikes.

Why not? Do the cameras and mics pick-up only certain things? Are gratitudes/compliments censored?

Actually, today Vika was picky about ball selection and asked the ball boys/girls to give her specific balls and in a specific manner etc. But, she was heard saying "thank you" several times to them.

Of course, this does not make Vika saint either. She has a potty mouth and she swears often, although today I did not hear anything.

The stuff that goes on today would get you imprisoned in "tennis jail" if you tried any of it 30+ years ago! :p There were only a handful of players who had so little respect for the sport and themselves; Connors, McEnroe, & Nastase led the way! Officials in the chair and tournament officials would disqualify you in 3 min. if you acted out for 2! They stretched it with these guys due to their star power, but eventually even their light burned out and each was suspended for offenses late in their careers! Lendl took artisan to a new level of pickiness with his rackets, the balls, and even the officiating, but he wasn't too bad! He and Jose Luis Clerc began abusing the time clock toweling off; even after serving an ace! I really can't remember too many occasions when I thought the kids were being abused by anyone in the past, but they all do it these days; all the prima donnas out there! :nono  :dodgy:
