Did I say Simona and then Sorana?
Less than a month ago in Canada, it was Sorana who went on to beat a collection of former major Champs and former number ones to reach the final, although she ended up as runner up, her ascent really opened eyes around the tour.
The following week, it was Simona who faced Serena in the quarters of Cinncinati, who were these Romanians?
Now this week, we see Simona going all the way and winning a premier level tournament, beating Petra, Caro and Sara on her way!
WHO ARE THESE ROMANIANS??

I thought Romanians were good at Gymnastics, but Tennis?

I tell you a well known secret, these two Ladies are only 21(Simona) and 23(Sorana), they both seem to be peaking this year, moving up the ranks and it seems like both are poised to break top 20 in the early future.

These two will be on everyone's case for the next five years at the minimum and that includes the fed cup!
Both play fearless, both have nice selection of shots, both have serves that can be weapons, both are nimble and fast, I can go on and on.

The Duo from Serbia has found it's match. Just younger...

What do you think?

sorana could control her game she would be a nightmare to some players. She over hit the ball to much.

Bump for Si Si!

Hi, should I really join this discussion? ;)
I can go on and on and may even be controversial.. ok here goes:

The way I see it, Simona is a very thoughtful player with a very solid tactics, strong mentally, fast on the court, and always demanding more of herself.
I don't think Sorana has these qualities, BUT she has a weapon and that's her hard hitting. Simona doesn't hit as hard as Sorana. On a good day Sorana can cause trouble to many good players same as she did in Toronto, but her good days are rare and she cant keep such high level of Tennis.
Simona should learn the hard hitting from Sorana, and Sorana should learn from Simona the rest.. ;)
Sorana has more room for improvement, Simona is almost at the top of her potential. If Sorana starts improving then who knows what she can achieve in future, But its hard to see Sorana improving, lets hope.
I wish Sorana the best, same as I wish it to my fav Simona.

One more thing, I cant compare the two to the two Serbian girls. In my opinion, the Serbian girls are still at a higher level especially because of Sorana which is a bit far behind in her level of play. Maybe in the future..
Anyway, Sorana can be fun to watch and I can see why you and others like her. In addition, she is good looking.

Considering the size of the country, Romania is surely on a per capita basis, must rank near the top when it comes to producing high calibre female players. Besides these two outstanding players there is of course Monica Niculescu and Alexandra Cadantu, both in the lower 60 rankings, along with Dulgheru, plus some lower ranked players too. I have a very small connection with the country and with Halep and Corstea leading the charge the Romanian tennis story can only grow in intensity!
2014 could be a stellar year for a number of these players.:D
