Should wheelchair tennis be opened up to those without a physical disability?

Hiya,

This is my first time watching the Wimbledon wheelchair tennis and have really been enjoying the sport!

I looked up the rules online and found that one of the entry requirements to compete was that you have to have a physical disability.

Wouldn't it be better to open the sport up to everyone to enter - but have the sport level the playing field through it's format - which I believe wheelchair tennis does....If everyone playing the sport is in a wheelchair - then (and maybe i'm wrong) there should be no advantage between disabled and non-disabled players and whoever wins will depend purely on their skill at the game?

I just think it would be good for the sport - I don't think it should be a sport which focuses on the disability - but should be a sport which is a great sport in its own right that everyone can play in!

Mmmm... that's interesting, never thought about it before, but first thoughts would be, why not?

but there isn't enough money for it, so the financial incentive isn't there.

No. Athletes without a physical disability would be able to train in ways a truly wheelchair bound athlete absolutely could not.
