...the rest of the year!
Since she was injured last year, she didn't play the last half, as a result Maria Sharapova defends one point the rest of the year, that's right only 1 point.
Maria has 4881 points on tomorrow's ranking and 4880 points in the race to Singapore.

Compare that to Serena who defends 6020 points, Li Na who is defending 2990 points, Aga Radwanska is defending 2172 points, Simona Halepp is defending 1916 points.

The #1 ranking may come down to who does well during the US Open series and wins the US Open.

Thanks for the information, Kiu! We may well have a new number one by the end of summer or after the UD Open.

It will come down to the USO more than the warmups. If Serena doesn't defend USO, she will lose a bucketload of points (almost 2000). Then she has China and the tour finals which is another (3000) points.

Nice situation for Masha indeed. Hopefully she stays healthy and earns a lot of points in the next few months.:)

I think she owes that point to the sterling coaching work of Mr Jimmy Connors... :clap :clap
