OK, I figured out how to do a new thread, so here's the info I posted on the Hamburg thread -

The Serbian tennis federation's doctor says Djokovic has "bone bruise" and probably won't play the US Open and needs 6-12 weeks to heal to avoid surgery. If true - I say "IF" because it's not coming directly from Djokovic's camp - that means Djokovic won't be defending his Canada Masters title either. So there goes 2200 points down the drain for Djokovic. Better to just skip the rest of the season than come back for the Paris Masters just to try to make the Tour Finals - which would be a long shot since he's currently #7 by only about 600 points.

Looks like Montreal will be a walk in the park for Rafa with Novak, Andy and Roger all likely to sit out.

@Busted: Whether true or not, (you're the one questioning it, and fair enough,) it does seem like he has some over-use problems on the body. I'm also in the camp that thinks he fairly clearly needs a mental-health break, to get his motivation back. There's no point in forcing it, for the body or the mind. If he doesn't take a serious break, he's going to just keep putting patches on it, imo.

Lesson from Fedal, when you need to go you need to go. Imo Fedal took extended breaks to avoid burn-out not just for physical injuries. Federer was seen on court way before he played a tournament, so he needed extra time to get the mind right......who knows maybe if Mirka wanted a long break, and Fed only plays when she is willing...

I hope Novak takes a good break, and will only be back when he feels 'good'......not for defending points, titles, money, fame or anything else. He might have family issues, sort that out too.....if you are not happy with your life you can't be 100% on court. one more thing, firing Boris was not a good move....he was good for Novak (and needed the money too)

Nole'll have a presser in Belgrade tomorrow, he'll tell if he can play USO and DC tie, if not, he could be back in Asian tour (l'Equipe)

That happens when you have a 25 year old's elbow... ;-):

Djokovic's style of play is very taxing on body and yet it took him to reach age 30 to have for the first time in his career a kind of injury that Nadal had when he was 25 years old

"This ought to have been a great year for Rafael Nadal, but now that he's pulled out of the U.S. Open in order to rest and rehabilitate his knees (he has chronic tendinitis in both of them) 2012 has become, like 2009, a year of travail, hardship, and sobering portents."

I just meant whether the information in the story is accurate or not - not whether or not he's actually injured. Typically if an athlete doesn't issue their own statement through their spokesperson - I side-eye it. Djokovic had no problem announcing himself that he was dropping his entire team. He didn't leave it to a 3rd party to leak the info.

Personally I'm in the camp who thinks Nole needs to fold tent for the year. If he takes 3 months off to heal - what's the point of coming back in late Oct\early Nov? Just sit the rest of the season, heal his elbow, get his mind together, enjoy their new baby and be with his family for a while. He clearly needs a mental break as well as a phsyical one. You knew he was in deep doo when he lost to Nadal on clay in Madrid and barely put up a fight. The Italian Open straight sets loss to Zverev and the French Open loss to Thiem with a bagel set just drove home how out of sorts he really is.

Federer was seen on court long before he played a match because...HE WAS PRACTICING! LOL! I love it when people see conspiracies here there are none. He even said he spent 6 weeks doing physical training\rehab and 6 weeks practicing before he was ready to play match. That's also why he played the Hopman Cup instead of Brisbane - because he was guaranteed 3 singles matches and 3 doubles matches FOR PRACTICE.

Also, Federer told ESPN - if Mirka doesn't want to travel with the kids anymore - that's it for his career. He's not traveling full-time on the tour without them. So yeah, Mirka's driving the Mercedes. Everybody knows that. Most wives do. Get 'em young, train 'em right. That's what my mama always said...
