Tournament Info
Tier: Premier, Prize Money: $2,599,610, Surface: Clay, Director: Sergio Palmieri
Two weeks prior to the start of the French Open, the stars of the WTA travel to the Italian capital for the Internazionali BNL d'Italia. Widely considered the second most prestigious clay event after Roland Garros, the Premier tournament's roll of champions reads like a who's who of all-time greats.

Leading the way is Chris Evert, who captured the trophy five times. Following closely behind are Gabriela Sabatini and Conchita Martínez, both of whom won a place in the hearts of the crowd at the Foro Italico with four title runs, and Serena Williams with three. Other winners include Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Kim Clijsters, Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova. Only Evert, Graf, Seles and Serena Williams have netted the Rome-French Open double in the same year.

After spending its first five years at the Tennis Club Milano, the event moved to the Benito Mussolini-built Foro Italico in northern Rome, in 1935, where it has stayed for all but three years since. The complex, which hosts an ATP event the same week, consists of 11 courts, with the jewel the 10,400-seater Centre Court.

Good to see Venus win. Her dubs with Serena was a flop. They had better work things out before Rio if they want a chance to medal in dubs.

Poor Riske. Serving for the match, had MP against Sam in the 2nd set and didn't convert. Only won one game after that. :nono

Meanwhile, Daria and Sabine are locked in a tussle w/ Daria up 6-1, 3-4

Players like Lisicki have no chance against Daria. Without even looking at the stat, I know Lisicki's error count swamped every other number.

Serena plays soon. I hope she wins easily. She needs confidence going into FO.

Serena generates interest for the WTA and other players should be grateful for this largesse...

I may have to agree with you there. I heard Carillo & Co. talking during Madrid that she was sorely missed in Spain and that the tour needed her and Fed badly. They also showed a pic of her practicing in Rome and Mary said Serena didn't look fit.

well ...she looks ok. and seems to be playing better than she did in America..she is not making a lot of errors like she did at Indian Wells and Miami...her fh seems to be firing..so far

Well Serena's thing has been playing well up until the final of an event and then that is when the errors have really shown their head, so not sure I would read anything into her play until it really matters.

the most interesting one is Kerber and Genie...Halep might tank this one.Petra and Keys is all about ballbashing...Ana is the only true clay court expert in all the matchups...

I think Kerber's problem going into RG is she will have pressure after just having become a slam champ.

I doubt that! Azarenka usually plays if healthy. I suspect those back problems are because of the slight changes she made to her first serve. I don't know that Vika was looking to do much at RG anyway. I suspect where she is looking to make noise is at the other two slams if she can stay healthy.
