Serena she has been the far steadier of the two. She will also want to make an impression that what happened in Doha was just that Doha.

Glad to hear Serena hit the practice court after her match as she was unhappy with her play. The only bad thing in that match was her first serve percentage in the first set and a few more unforced errors than she has committed in previous matches. She will have to land the first serve more against Vika, but I see no reason why Serena shouldn't come through this final on the winning end.

The Best

H2H is 11-2 in favor of Serena.

I am going against the grain and picking Vika in 2 tough sets.
I am probably wrong but hey, I say Vika has confidence since she is the one who beat Serena last time and on top of that my crystal ball tells me Serena will have a bad day.

You all can come back and haunt me afterwards...

I know everyone wants a rivalry and so they keep bringing up Doha. But anyone could clearly see that Serena was low energy due to a cold or something she was suffering with. When she plays Vika or Maria, she loves to turn it on to show everyone there is a country mile between her and them. Serena will do Vika in two sets - and I don't expect it to be close - even on clay.

The serve will decide this match and that would be Serena's serve, Vika is a good returner and she gets the edge in footwork and speed.
Can Serena serve good enough?
I think Vika will challenge the serve.

Vika might get the edge on foot work, but not speed.

You seriously gave Vika the edge in speed....REALLY??

Question?

Why is it, when Serena plays another top ten player, especially Maria or Vika, the first thing people write is, Serena better play better if she wants to win, or, Serena has to do this or do that.

I think the burden is most often on the other player to up their game.

Yes I do Calvy, time and time again Sara dropped the ball on her and we saw what happened.
Vika is younger, faster and lighter.

Vika younger, definitely, yet still 2-12 against the older woman, and by the looks of her recently, lighter is arguable.

But, faster, she is not.

Maybe you're not familiar with playing on clay, but, when you dropshot, the ball dies, and Sara is a good clay courter, so she'd know the feel and have the mind of a clay courter.

I used to play on clay and drop shots are one of the smartest shots to use on the surface.

I disagree with Vika being faster. Serena in 1 close set and 1 blowout.

That's exactly what I was implying, Sara and Samantha both tried the drop shot on Vika but Vika was fast enough to neutralize most of it.
It did work for a while for Samantha on that second set bagel she gave Vika but not afterwards.

OK, you all think Serena is faster or equal, I think Vika.
May be I should start a poll on that?

Maybe you should, and just like this poll, you'll be the only one voting for Vika, or should I say, against Serena.

Well Calvy because of the top 3 Serena is the more likely to go on holiday. I trust Maria and Vika's ability to be consistent far more than Serena's ability. Serena is someone who can win three straight tournaments and then lose 3 straight tournaments. Granted it hasn't happened in a while, but she is more prone to it than they are.

Unless I see Serena beat Vika in a H2H 40 yard dash, I am sticking to my opinion.
:)

The way I look at it, there is just too many die hard Serena fans, the results will not be meaningful.
