Vika will be tested by a surging X champion, she might fall here.
Masha will have her hands full of Sloane.

Maria K in straights, I presume.
JJ over JH

I have to pull for US Women's tennis tomorrow, even against Sharapova, who's got one foot in US and Russia. I think JJ is streaky, though she has looked good here. Maybe Hampton has a shot. And I hope Schiavone can pull it out over Azarenka.

Well the F. Schiavone vs V. Azarenka was kind of an anticlimax :) Vika crushed and bageled Franny 63, 60 and it was over quickly. Poor Franny, what a let down! Let's see how the other matches will unfold. Hopefully they can offer a little bit more excitement

I'm rooting for the 2 Marias and especially Maria K. It would be so cool if she could be a top 10 player

And yep she did it. Maria Kirilenko defeated Bethany Mattek-Sands 75, 64 and Maria is in the QF. Congratulations and well done! A place in the top 10 next? BTW aren't those cute socks Maria is wearing?

Who was the nutjob interviewing Maria Lite?
Kirilenko speaks broken english,,,

I was thinking more of the way he was trying to get the crowd doing the wave during the interview.

This wasn't a stellar match from Masha but she managed to win in straights 64, 63 anyways - Well done - Masha's next opponent in the QF will probably be Jelana Jankovic or maybe Jamie Hampton. Whomever it is - I think Masha will have a great chance to pull through to the semis at least

GO Masha GO!!!

All the American hopefuls lost. :( Back to normal for Serena. She's used to carrying the torch for the USA on both sides.

Sloane, She Gone! She had some good points vs Pova.

she is too passive and shows pova a lot of respect for obvious reasons..just cannot warm up to her because she doesnt have on court charisma.
pova did us a favor by getting rid of her...

Agreed.. Its time for big babe tennis as Pam S calls it and one day we will be talking about Madison Keys, not too much about this player, IMO.

Madison needs to work on fitness and mental game...dont want her to end up like Lolo Jones..

After so many years of tennis fans endlessly commenting on the lack of depth, mental fortitude, and ability in the WTA we finally have these stats:

- 5 of the top 8 seeds made the QFs
- 4 of the quarter finalists are past grand slam champions.
- 7 of the 8 quarter finalists are past grand slam finalists
- 4 of the quarter finalists are grand slam champions!

Now if we can just get the idiotic American tennis media to FOCUS on the women's game and actually py attention to it year round then we could have some fairness. I'm so tired of listening to Tennis.com's podcast every week and hearing that they obviously only casually watch the women's tour. These men spend about 12 minutes of 15 talking about the ATP and give a passing glance to the WTA.
